Positive review for Myers

Friday, August 21, 2009, 5:21 PM
Ruben Amaro Jr. spoke by phone today with rehabbing righthander Brett Myers, who yesterday struck out three and allowed two hits in his first minor league start since hip surgery in early June. "He felt fine," Amaro said. That is good news for the Phillies, who are increasingly hopeful... Read more

Myers debuts, plus Manuel on the Mets

Thursday, August 20, 2009, 7:38 PM
As you may be aware, Brett Myers made his rehab debut today in Clearwater, where he allowed two hits and struck out two batters while pitching the fourth inning of a continuation of a rain-delayed game. All three strikeouts were looking. Myers is expected to re-join the team at some point in September... Read more

A star is born

Thursday, August 20, 2009, 11:11 AM
At first glance, romance has suffered a slow death over the past couple of decades in American society. Album covers have been replaced by I-Tunes receipts. Long phone conversations have been replaced by 140-character texts. Games of stick ball have been replaced by games of Grand Theft Auto. Covering... Read more

Are Phils RISP struggles overblown?

Wednesday, August 19, 2009, 8:43 PM
Lot of chatter today about Runners In Scoring Position, specifically about the Phillies' inability to hit in such situations over the past week. Since going 7-for-11 with RISP in a 12-5 win over the Cubs on Aug. 12, they are 7-for-29 (.241). While not good, it also isn't too far off their season average... Read more

Bako catching again; Other updates

Wednesday, August 19, 2009, 3:17 PM
For whatever reason, the Phillies get defensive when you mention anything to them about Cliff Lee's catcher. I don't know why. It doesn't seem like a big deal. So what if Paul Bako has caught all three of Lee's starts? So what if Lee had a personal catcher in Kelly Shoppach in Cleveland? So what if... Read more

Last year they were 62-53 with a one game lead in the NL East. Here are some more comparisons: 1) In 2008, they were hitting .255/.333/.439 with 159... Read more

By DAVID MURPHY dmurphy@phillynews.com A police spokesman backed Brett Myers' contention that he did not injure his eye at an altercation at a Jacksonville pub/restaurant early Saturday morning.
