LHP Mike Zagurski had successful Tommy John surgery in Alabama today.
Zagurski won the Paul Owens Award last season as the best pitcher in the Phillies’ minor league system when he went a combined 0-0 with a 1.39 ERA in 25 minor league games at three different classifications. In 32.1 minor league innings, Zagurski had 49 strikeouts and did not allow a home run. At the major league level, he went 1-0 with a 5.91 ERA in 25 games with 21 strikeouts in 21.1 innings.
Zagurski has said he hopes to throw off the mound by the end of next spring training.
Zagurski shares a Clearwater apartment with 2006 first-round draft pick Kyle Drabek, who is currently working his way back from Tommy John surgery.
