The Yankees may have just ratcheted up the pressure on the Phillies tonight in Game 3. Manager Joe Girardi just told reporters that ace lefthander C.C. Sabathia will indeed start Game 4 on three days' rest. So instead of another Sabathia-Cliff Lee match-up, it will be Sabathia-Blanton. Meanwhile, A.J. Burnett could start Game 5 on short rest against Lee, while Pettitte could start Game 6 on short rest if necessary, although Girardi said he hasn't made any decisions yet.

Both Sabathia and Burnett have pitched well on short rest in their careers.

Burnett has started four games in his career on three days rest and is 4-0 with a 2.33 ERA, allowing 19 hits and two home runs while striking out 24 and walking 10 in 27 innings.

During the regular season, Sabathia is 3-1 with a 1.01 ERA in four starts on short rest. His most recent postseason start came on three days rest, when he allowed one run on five hits against the Angels in a 10-1 win in Game 4 of the ALCS on Oct. 20.

As everyone said over the past 24 hrs, it all hinges on Cole no matter who is pitching what game. If Hamels wins then the pressure will be enormous on CC in what would appear to be a huge mismatch in his favor. Cause no way Lee loses at The Bank on full rest.

woogie
I wish CC Sabathia would pitch every game in the series

Can CC really win 2/2 short rest starts against the Phils? I don't think so.

That could work out for the Phils if they are patient and run up the pitch counts. All 3 pitchers on 3 days rest could mean an early call to the pen if the Phils play the cards right and make 'em work.

CRAZY DEGO
How do you figure that one, we all ready beat C.C. in his house. If Hamels is any way near his performances of last year, it's over for the yankees. Save your ratchet for your car.

Sabathia's fastball topped off at 90, 91 MPH in game one... I say he is fatigued.

How come every Yankee pitcher can pitch on three days rest, but the Phillies need four? I think it is a mistake to not push Lee to his limits, and keep the pressure on the Yankees. Anyway, since Lee pitched on Wednesday, if he pitched in game 4, that represents 4 days rest - Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and then Sunday until 8:30 at night. If we do not use Lee as often as physically possible, we will lose this series.

CC LOST game 1, LOST last year when he pitched here in the playoffs, was LOSING when he left the game against Hamels, earlier this year in Yankee Stadium, maybe you got this BACKWARDS? Other than his 3 staters and Rivera, Girard has little or no confidence in his pitchers. Make them throw a lot of pitches, and get into that bullpen, CC's a good pitcher, but he's definitely beatable, especially if we win game 3, then we turn up the presure on him

Remember what Manuel said the reason why Sabathia lost last year in Philly? Because he was pitching on 3 days rest often. After throwing 113 pitches in only 7 innings, I don't think he can be effective--especially in a hostile environment such as CBP--I'd love to see him get the Burt Hooten treatment--so ineffective, he's jeered off the mound.

AWESOME. We will get another 40 pitches out of him in the first inning. Chase will get his HRs again only this time we'll have men on base. If anything the yanks put pressure on themselves, with Lee starting game 5.

Yanksin4
Well, that about raps it up for the Yanks. The Phillies might as well mail it in. Sabathia is not throwing in the low 90's; you guys are utterly delusional. It was pretty obvious how you could win this World Series; pitch Lee in games 4 and 7. But of course, you'd rather hurl a bunch of soft throwers who are going to get hammered by the Yanks' bashers. Good luck tonight. You will need it!

Hey Bobphxville. That's only 3 full days of rest you moron. He's never pitched on 3 days rest before. This way, you have him on full rest and available out of the pen for game 7. If Phils take one of the next two plus game 5 with Lee they'll be up 3-2 going back to the Bronx. Hey, who had the best record on the road in baseball this year?
