Leftfielder Raul Ibanez, who started play Sunday leading the league in RBI runs scored and tied for the top spot in home runs, didn’t play even though the Phillies were facing a tough righthanded pitcher in Boston’s Josh Beckett.

It turns out that Ibanez recently changed shoes and that resulted in some soreness in his Achilles.

“It’s fine,” he said, adding that he expects to be back in the lineup when the Phillies play Toronto on Tuesday night. “It’s feeling a lot better. It’s really nothing at all.”

Ironic that Raul missed a game because of poor fitting shoes while playing the Redsox. Yaz never wore a new pair of shoes until coach, Johnny Peske broke them in for him. If I were the Phillies, I would put somebody on the payroll to do the same thing for Raul. So far this year he's our MVP and his numbers could be as good as Yaz's in 68 when he won the tripple crown.

Yaz didn't win the tripple crown. He tied in one of the categories, if I recall.

A day off is good for him. I look for Ibanez to come back with a big series against Toronto.

Yaz won the TRIPLE Crown in '67. And even if he did tie in one of the categories, he STILL would have led the league in all three, thus winning the TRIPLE Crown.

You don't need to be the sole leader in a stat in order to get the triple crown. As long as you are tied for the lead, it still counts.

Didn't Yaz and Frank Robinson win the Triple Crown about the same time. Would love to have either of them on today's Phils team (maybe even at their advanced age!).
