Finally, some daylight, both literally and figuratively. After a wet, windy and cool week here in Clearwater, the sun is out, the thermometer is creeping toward 60 degrees, and Rich Dubee has posted his pitching probables for the first week of exhibition play.

The games are almost here, which means we'll finally get a chance to see some of the Phillies' pitchers in action against opposing hitters. Dubee reiterated his philosophy earlier this week when he joined us on Daily News Live, saying that he looks at each pitcher's first appearance as a mulligan. Starters will be held to under 50 pitches as they continue to stretch their arms out and regain their feel for their repetoires.

Here is a look at the probables for Week 1:

Wednesday, March 3, vs. Florida State

  1. LHP J.A. Happ
  2. RHP Phillippe Aumont
  3. LHP Yohan Flande
  4. RHP Drew Naylor
  5. LHP Joe Savery
  6. RHP Jesus Sanchez
  7. RHP David Herndon

HIGHLIGHTS: A chance to see some of the team's young pitchers in action against the Seminoles. Aumont is the big righty whom the team acquired in the Cliff Lee deal, while Flande had good success last season in the minors. Savery is the 2007 first round draft pick, while Sanchez is a converted catcher who thrived last season in his first year as a pitcher. Herndon is a Rule 5 pick with a heavy sinker.

Thursday, March 4, vs. Yankees

  1. RHP Roy Halladay
  2. RHP Kyle Kendrick
  3. RHP Jose Contreras
  4. RHP Andrew Carpenter
  5. LHP Sergio Escalona

HIGHLIGHTS: Halladay makes his debut against a team he knows very well, while we get our first look at Contreras, the hard-throwing righty who will be facing the team who signed him out of Cuba.

Friday, March 5 at Blue Jays

  1. LHP Cole Hamels
  2. RHP J.C. Ramirez
  3. RHP Ryan Vogelsong
  4. LHP Antonio Bastardo

HIGHLIGHTS: Cole Hamels sees his first action of the spring. Much of the focus will be on his secondary pitches -- Hamels has been tinkering with a cutter in addition to his curveball -- but don't expect to see too much in his first start. Ramirez is the talented but raw righty the Phillies acquired along with Aumont and Tyson Gillies for Cliff Lee, while Vogelsong is looking to return to the majors after three years in Japan. Bastardo has as good of a shot as any young reliever to crack the Opening Day roster, but the Phillies will be watching closely the command of his slider.

Friday, March 5, at Blue Jays (B Game)

  1. LHP Jamie Moyer
  2. RHP Chad Durbin
  3. RHP Ryan Madson
  4. RHP Scott Mathieson

HIGHLIGHTS: Moyer makes his surprising return to the mound after a hellish offseason in which he had surgery on his abdomen and knee, and was hospitalized twice for complications. Mathieson is attempting to bounce back from two elbow surgeries.

Saturday, March 6, at Pirates

  1. RHP Joe Blanton
  2. RHP Danys Baez
  3. RHP Ehren Wasserman
  4. LHP Mike Zagurski
  5. LHP Bill White
  6. RHP B.J. Rosenberg

HIGHLIGHTS: Blanton is newly signed to a three-year extension, while Baez had a good year for the Orioles in his first season back frmo elbow surgery. Zagurski and White are two intriguing lefties, while Rosenberg had a good season as a closer in the minors.

Sunday, March 7 vs. Rays

  1. LHP J.A. Happ
  2. RHP Phillippe Aumont
  3. RHP Drew Naylor
  4. RHP Jesus Sanchez
  5. RHP David Herndon
  6. LHP Yohan Flande
  7. LHP Joe Savery

HIGHLIGHTS: Happ would like to make some strides with his cutter, while Herndon's slider could hold the key to whether he makes a run at a big league roster spot.

Monday, March 8 at Yankees

  1. RHP Kyle Kendrick
  2. RHP Jose Contreras
  3. RHP Chad Durbin
  4. RHP Scott Mathieson

HIGHLIGHTS: Today is all about Kendrick, making his second appearance of the spring while trying to convince the Phillies to let him supplant Moyer in the rotation.

David, when and where is the 3-5 "B" Game? You have plenty of readers in or going to Clearwater. It would be great if you could provide that detail for Phillies B games, this spring.

Why don't you look at the 5 March roster if you're worried about not finding Hamels on the schedule.

Hey Murphy. During your ESPN interview, you fell back on the old tired cliche that is repeated over and over again in the media that the Philly fans are "notoriously fickle". Yet Chan Ho Park said, "Philadelphia was [my] no. 1 choice. I had a tough time leaving there. I had much support from fans and community, and I had the best teammates there, so..." Note he said fans, community. Maybe it is time that the press stops referring to the Phila fans as being bad and look again.

I didn't see the interview but Phillies fans are far from fickle. Tough, yes. Tough bordering on insulting at times. Yes, ask MJ Schmidt. But fickle fans do not warm to Mitch Williams (we know his history with us) the way Philly did. Fickle fans do not smile when Micky Morandini returns to help at spring training. Carlton, Schmidt, Daulton, Williams, Bottalico -- some champions, others not, are all welcome in our house, if they played hard and well. I would take Philly fans over vain/artificial New York or LA any day, and I think the players know the difference, too.

Fickle (adj.): Marked by erratic changeableness in affections or attachments. As in -- The fickle Philadelphia sports fan wanted the Phillies to sign Cole Hamels to a huge multi-year deal after 2008, and wanted the Phillies to trade him after 2009.

Halladay,Hamels,Blanton,Happ,?. Lidge, madson,Romero,Baez,Contreras,Durbin,?. Murph who wins the last 2 pitching positions? There doesnt seem to be enough spots. Is it going to be Kendrick starting and Moyer in the Pen? What about the big arms of Bastardo,Mathieson,Zagurski? Herndon looks to be a long shot to say the least.

You point is well taken, Murph, but those fans only make-up a portion of the Phillies fanbase. No? So why base our identity solely on the opinions of our least informed fans?

You are right - I shouldn't generalize. My over-riding point on ESPN was that if the Phillies are out of contention at the All-Star Break in 2013, a healthy number of fans will be calling for Amaro's head and staying away from the ballpark, even if they did keep Cliff Lee this season. I wasn't saying I agree or disagree with the philosophy behind the trade, I was just explaining the rationale.
