Werth among 142 baseball free agents
Jayson Werth is among 142 players who became free agents as soon as the final out of the World Series was recorded last night.
With recent changes to the free agent provisions of the Basic Agreement, the exclusive negotiating period for free agents and their current clubs has been shortened to 5 days (from 15 days). Beginning the sixth day, free agent players are eligible to negotiate and sign with any team.

From the top list I really like Jon Rauch from Minnesota for the bullpen...tattoos and all. hiyld
Kerry Wood could be a good pick up... IanG
I really think Jayson Werth would be a good fit. Don't you? TerryW
Let's get Pat "The Bat" Burrell back. You can't beat going 0-13 in the world series with 10 strikeouts. I'm sure a bunch of teams will be fighting for him. neddyflanders
Can we get them sorted by position? I know, I'm being picky, sorry. DennyP
Guess Chan Ho Park will want to start once again for $40 million somewhere. And both starting NY shortstops can be free agents? How strange. There are a lot of "came to spring training on a minor league contract" names on that list. chescoguy
VERY slim pickings this year....very slim....but you know what? The Giants just proved to everybody....you don't need an All Star or HOF'er at every position to win a World Series......remember, we had Eaton and Myers and Jenkins and Burrell and WE won, too! Mark1npt
Not much out there but there are few guys that could help: 1) Pedro Feliciano gives you a replacement for JC Romero who is actually better than Romero. 2) Grant Balfour gives you what Baez was supposed to give you 3)Justin Duchsherer, if he is healthy and willing to take a one year deal, he is an upgrade over Kendrick. Like I said, not much out there. syddan26
I think the Phils first priority should be left handed reliever Pedro Feliciano. Not only is he a multi-inning southpaw, but he has shutdown the Phightins for several seasons now. He would be a great replacement for Romero. bobo_29
All-ex-Phillies Free Agent All-Star Team:
Barajas, Rod C; Thome, Jim 1B; Cairo, Miguel 2B; Punto, Nick SS; Feliz, Pedro 3B; Stairs, Matt OF; Burrell, Pat OF; Lee, Cliff OF (short on OFs); Millwood, Kevin SP; Padilla, Vicente SP; Garcia, Freddy Antonio SP; Park, Chan Ho RP; Rhodes, Arthur RP; Chen, Bruce SP smel4727
I think the Phils should sign every possible run of the mill lefty reliever. Every one. That way, Utley and Howard may both get some hits in the playoffs next year. FishtownFitz
Burrell sealed his fate with the Giants with his 0-13 in the WS. At least when he was with the Phillies, his one WS hit was a big one! SteveS11
If you're a left handed reliever and you can throw enough strikes to not walk in a run you can be successful against the Phillies. Doesn't matter if you can only thrown 50 mph....Utley and Howard will still whiff against you. SteveS11
