Wednesday vs. Reds: Polanco back at third base, Schneider catching Worley
David Murphy, Daily News Staff Writer
Kevin Frandsen went 3-for-4 with a key triple and a clutch defensive play, but he'll be on the bench for tonight's game against the Reds as Placido Polanco returns to the starting lineup. Perhaps the Phillies are still hoping to deal away Polanco, who has an option on his contract for next season that is all but sure to be declined.
Frandsen is 6-for-10 with an RBI and two runs in his last two starts.
The only other lineup change is Brian Schneider catching Vance Worley.
The lineup:
1. Jimmy Rollins SS
2. Juan Pierre LF
3. Chase Utley 2B
4. Ryan Howard 1B
5. John Mayberry Jr. LF
6. Domonic Brown RF
7. Placido Polanco 3B
8. Brian Schneider C
9. Vance Worley RHP
- Oh yeah! What a lot to forward to tonight with Black Holes at the Plate JMJ (who grounded into 2 DPs in a row last night) Schneider & Polly all in the lineup tonight! Way to throw the game cholly
It could get kinda crowded out there in left. I think you meant that Mayberry is playing CF. drbob1
This move makes no sense unless Polanco is auditioning for a job for next year. Boru
how funny that we need two guys playing left tonight. Maybe we can have Pierre use his hustle and speed to actually run hard to catch balls before they drop and then he can hand the ball off to AAAberry to throw it in.
The two of them together should make a decent LF. Now about that hole in CF.... advantasux
don't ya just love the way the local media rushes into the fray caused by every stupid Manuel or Amaro move to explain it away with unfounded speculation or just pure innuendo?
Let's see...Manuel again benches Frandsn to give Polly his rightful job back, d*mn the percentages and stats to the contrary, while Schneider again mans the catcher's position despite our best power hitter of late Kratz giving us the best clutch hitting we've seen from anyone not named Chooch,
and what we get is this: "Perhaps the Phillies are still just looking to deal away Polanco (and give him playing time to showcase him)".
and this: "Brian Schenider is back catching Worley".
How about some of this? "Hard to beleive that Manuel would subtract from his lineup his two hittest hitters who are also contributing mightily on defense of late, Erik Kratz and Kevin Frandsen. The insertion of Polanco and Schneider into their spots will weaken the lineup considerably. Simply cannot understand this move". advantasux
Why not put someone who has better RISP stats than: 0.261 wOBA, 58 wRC+, and a 0.179 average in the number 5 hole? 46 and 2
If I were Frandsen i'd be pissed. Actually im pissed also. If theyre really doing this to deal polly then they will prob get a Chili's gift card for him. I JUST DONT UNDERSTAND, THANKS FOR THE 3 HITS YESTERDAY INCLUDING THE CLUTCH TRIPLE, NOW GRAB A SEAT ON THE BENCH RollinsJim
I've really tried to remain neutral on Charlie. But I have to admit he really is stupid. He didn't pull Lee last night when he was obviously fading. Today, he starts Polanco in favor of Frandsen when the former has no future with the Phillies while the latter might. You can't have it both ways ... one day saying Charlie is making moves to audition players for next year and the next day having him make moves that frankly just present him as stupid. Unless Amaro brings in a bunch of power hitters next year, so Charlie doesn't haven't to manage, they might as well give the job to Sandberg and start over. DennyM15
I'd like to see Frandsen play more, too, just to see what he's got. But, the last time this lineup started (except Kratz hit eighth, not Schneider) we scored 12 runs. eman
Once again, with the insertion of Schneider and Polanco back into the lineup, Bumbles makes a statement to his veterans..."boys, don't worry, I have your backs. Nothing's going to harm you tonight, not on my watch".
And the genius GM sits idly by as players that cannot possibly fit into the team's plans going forward get the majority of the playing time. advantasux- I wouldn't get too worked up over starting lineups at this point. Frandsen and Kratz can always come off the bench. God help us if we fall 21 games back instead of 20.
I have to say Frandsen is making me think he could be a viable 3B option if they feel a guy like Asche isn't far off. Worst case keep him as a bench player. I like his style of play and he's getting the hits. That defensive play he made last night was pretty impressive. s
Sorry guys, as fun as it is to love Frandsen, Polanco is a better baseball player in every single aspect of the game: offense, defense, whatever. Having a hot few weeks does not suddenly make Frandsen into an elite major leaguer. He's consistently been low-level player through years of trying. Go Polly! kilo_005- Frandsen's a career .310 hitter in the minors, with an OPS of .802 and a fielding percentage of .990 who's never gotten an opportunity to play regularly in the majors. Polanco hasn't hit over .300 since 2008, with a .747 OPS and only 3 seasons over .800 in his career. He WAS a better baseball player thn Frandsen; he isn't any more.
- Frandsen is too good to play for a team run by Monty, Rube and managed by Uncle Cholly.

I for one do not know why we have not shut down afew players for the rest of the year as in DOC and Worley let Worley hqave the chips removed form his elbow now so he can do his rehab and be more than ready for Spring Training. Let DOC get some rest and be totally healthy for the start of Spring Training too! Bring up the kid from triple A to pitch and another youbng arm and just see what thye have or don't have! As much asIdo like Polly he just can't hit any more and he just get hurt way to much to be our starting 3rd baseman any more. srcdaddy1216
