Wash out

Set aside the obvious mother nature angle for a second. Yeah, the big guy upstairs didn't do the Phillies any favors today. A two hour rain delay limited Kyle Kendrick to just one inning and sapped away some momentum from a bottom of the first in which Ryan Howard hit a two-run home run. And a 39-minute rain delay enabled Roy Halladay to warm up and go in the game to face Pat Burrell with two on and two out in the sixth.

But. . .

The Phils hit just 3-for-13 with runners in scoring position. That's not good.

They out-hit the Blue Jays, but left the bases loaded in the fourth and the fifth.

Toronto, meanwhile, made its hits counts.

One quick thing: Kyle Kendrick could see some action before his next start, though it isn't a definite. He threw just 12 pitches today, and Charlie Manuel acknowledged after the game that using Kendrick in relief for an inning or two was a possibility.

Chad Durbin threw well, except for the last three batters he faced. 66 pitches was 20 more than he'd thrown all season.

By the end of the game, there couldn't have been more than a thousand people still in the ballpark. I'm kind of amazed there were that many. They almost saw a ninth inning rally, but Eric Bruntlett struck out after an eight pitch at bat with the game tying run on second base.

Tomorrow: it's Washington D.C. or bust. See you there.
