Wait and See on Gload
David Murphy, Daily News Staff Writer
Quick update on Ross Gload, who left the Phils' 2-0 win over the Dodgers in the seventh inning after pulling a groin.
The injury looked bad, but manager Charlie Manuel expressed some hope last night (then again, Manuel is an unabashed optimist when it comes to these sorts of things).
"They said it's not quite as bad as they thought it might be (at first)," Manuel said.
If Gload goes to the DL, he'll be the 16th player to do so this season.
The Phillies are already down one bench player, having promoted Antonio Bastardo as an extra relief arm.
The Phillies will know more on Thursday after Gload is examined by team medical staff.
- Victorino will be activated today or tomorrow. EL Zorro
Tracy would come up before Ransom. He has been OK last two Septs and is a long ball lefty. Ransom was below Mendoza line in bigs and is a .235 hitter with 'pigs and a rh batter. mick314
Gload has been an excellent pick up as has been Valdez and Contreas. I was thinking prior to injury that he and Sweeney would be strong tandem as designated hitters IF Phills are fortunate to get to world series, I thought that was best Lidge looked all year. Oswalt looked terific giving Phills 3 aces. This years team is better than 08 world series champs Polamco and Ibanez are stronger than their counterparts. The bench with Gload and valdez is stronger than add Halliday and Oswalt. Of course Lidge was tremendous in 08. I dont see Werth going to Yankees as he would figure to end up as platoon player there. The best pitcher in baseball the last 2 months is arguably Gavin Floyd who has a 1.17 ERA over last 10 starts. Traded by who some refer to as the Diety Pat gillick for 1 game winner Garcia Don w
I'll bet its because Ernie Sims took him out. e4stringer
go to a game and see them all in the outfield stretching...now you're all physical therapists and doctors too...or you could blame it on Amaro too..idiots..i guess since lidge saved another game and madsen got us there and oswalt pitched well and guys are hitting some we've moved onto the medical staff for all these injuries.. spittooncj- in a word of doesnt, Gload does
It would be wonderful to have Thome back here for a run. But agree with @mick314 that the Twins have every reason to keep him. I guess it would mean that Ransom comes back up unless Greg Gross can still pinch hit. smel4727
Comment removed.- He probably lost his concentration rounding first base thinking about how delicious scotch is. gwn099
The majority of the Phillies' injuries haven't been of the strained or pulled variety. Utley tore a ligament in his thumb, Polanco has bone spurs, Howard sprained an ankle (you can't stretch that out), Moyer blew out his elbow, Lidge and Romero both recovered from off- season surgery, Ruiz had a concussion, Happ had elbow issues and the list goes on. Yes, you do have strains with players like Durbin, Gload, Victorino, and Blanto, but to blame the lack of stretching and the training staff for the majority of the injuries is just ridiculous. catnameddomino
i blame andy reid and joe banner for all the groin pulls. fire them! sore richard
Merlin- don't even TRY to compare the Phightins' with the NY "Melts", that totally dysfunctional albatross up north (they now have their "star" closer assaulting his father-in-law!!). Depth is the key in sports, which the M.E.T.S. (My Entire Team S**ks) do not have. Plus, their biggest problem is themselves in the fact that they are always second rate in NY to the Yankees. mrjarn
Mike Schmidt had problems with groin injuries until he changed his workout regimen. Improper stretching habits lead to a lot of these injuries but you can't discount muscle fatigue as a cause either. Like merlinknghts says, it's just baseball. Original #11
Thome is having a great yr as DH for AL East co-leader Minny. Why would they move him ?? mick314
Best scenario if Gload goes to DL would be to recall Vicki, release Baez (still leaving us with 12 pitchers) and add Tracy as lhph. If Baez stays, consider DL for JCR (Just Cant Releive) mick314- Veteran teams tend to suffer more lower body injuries. Its no more complicated than that. Gload is 34.

Injuries happen...remember the Mets last year...it's baseball fellas..they're aint no crying in baseball.... merlinknghts
Scootch - I've wondered the same thing. Why do the Phils have so many non-contact injuries like strains, groin pulls, hamstrings, etc. These are athletes who are supposedly taught the importance of warming up and stretching, etc. Maybe the Phils should take a look at their training staff and regimen and the compliance of the players with good warming up exercises. Too much to be just bad luck! bartfr
Does anyone on this team stretch out before a game? scootch
Get Jim Thome for 1B (before Ed Wade does)! jman
