Video: Where do the Phillies go from here?

Video: The Phillies were swept by the Braves and sit 14 games out of first place in the NL East at the All-Star break. Has Shane Victorino played his last game for the Philies? Will Charlie Manuel be the fall guy? Marcus Hayes of the Daily News examines the mess that the Phillies have made for themselves.

guitarman, you are absolutely correct, the afternoon boys especially Anthony G. asks that same question constantly of all the WIP listeners and overwhelmingly they all say give us a championship (World Series, Super Bowl, Stanley Cup etc.)and we will take ten (yes,10 years) years of mediocrity !!! Guess that doesn't hold true when it really happens !!! I personally hate what has happened to the Phils but paying to win now has it's consequences and we are seeing them first hand, Eagles training camp can't get here quick enough !!!

I really like the idea of getting Bourn, Trumbo, and Hamilton. Those deals are all very likely and I'm certain the Phils are working on them. But why stop there? Package Kratz and Rosenberg for Yadier Molina. Send Pierre, Martinez, and Wigginton to the Angels for Trout and Pujols. Then deal Sanches, Herndon, and a prospect to the Dodgers for Kemp and Kershaw. Finally, trade Worley to the Nats for Harper straight up. With these pieces plus Domonic Brown we should win at least ten world championships in a row.

Full credit to Charlie for the past few seasons but what's so painfully obvious is that he has completely lost the team as this season drags on. The will, the spirit, the confidence, the pride, the overall play is listless, and that lack of leadership that inspires not fear of making a mistake but inner heart never simply to give up is missing night after night.

I believe there is a very real solution. Look no further than down the road to Lehigh Valley. Replace Charlie with Ryne Sandburg and the minute he takes over, you jhave an immediate mind-set change. The younger players know him, believe in him, the older players will respect him. Spirit will be renewed, players will play again as though they cared about winning, for the team, the city, pride again in themselves and each other. SECOND CHANGE that's needed for many of the same reasons Charlie has lost the team is to replace the pitching coach who has lost his pitching staff. Fresh leadership is needed and what better candidate for pitching coach than Jamie Moyer, who like Ryne Sandburg would bring instant credibility, a more positive presence, one the entire staff by contrast if nothing else would respond to with renewed spirit and purpose. Think about it: Sandberg as manager, Moyer as pitching coach, the Phillies as a team alive and "fighing" again.

Can some explain the Hunter Pence hate? He's having a rough year in the field, but he's doing everything he's supposed to do at the plate. He's not The Man, but he's clearly a key piece, like Werth was. Everyone needs to settle down.

The headline to this article - "Where do the Phillies go from here"?

the answer - to the CEMETERY for the burial.

All this nonsense talk about how they play the next couple week.

Everyone said the same nonsense talk these past 9 games before the All-Star break --> 9 games vs the NL East (Fish, Mutts & Braves) coupled with the return of the SAVIOR - Chase Utley

How did that nonsense turn out - lost 8 of 9 to those NL East teams & the savior Utley is batting .233 with a mere 3 rbi batting out of the 3-hole.

    REST IN PEACE, Phils!

I can't blame Cholly but his folksy approach only works when the team has a lot of drive and internal leadership instead a bunch of overpaid slackers. If a new manager can get JRoll to run to first base I say he's earned the job.
