The Domonic Brown era has begun.
Centerfielder Shane Victorino was placed on the 15-day disabled list with an abdominal strain on his left side, the Phillies announced.
The Phillies selected the contract of Brown, the organization's top prospect, from Triple A Lehigh Valley to take his roster spot. Brown will wear No. 9 and will be available for tonight’s game against the Diamondbacks, presumably as the starting rightfielder.
Victorino was hitting .250 with a career-high 15 home runs and 53 RBI in 98 games for the Phillies this season.
Victorino, who has a team-leading 20 stolen bases this season, suffered the injury while diving back into first base during a pickoff attempt in last night’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Citizens Bank Park.
Brown, 22, has combined to hit .327 (112-for-343) with 46 extra-base hits, including 20 home runs and 68 RBI over 93 games for Double A Reading and Lehigh Valley.
More to come.

must be looking at a lot more than 15 days if we're calling him up... jodya2
this sucks, they can't get a break from the injuries. sore richard
jimy - hard to say that this could be the day the season turned around when the team is riding a 6 game winning streak, while the braves and mets are playing poorly and Halladay is starting. If any day is going to be marked down it will be the day Milt was finally fired. therev
Will be interesting to see if Charlie starts him or decides to give him a game to watch the speed at this level and starts Francisco instead. As for Werth, I doubt they were going to trade him once he began to hit again; he is their lone veteran righthanded bat with pop and experience down the stretch. chuckw
Not happy they did this. What are the plans for his playing time? Is he simply going to sit on the bench and only play sporadically? Not certain this is the right move for him or the team, especially now that the pennant race has heated up. A righthanded bat would've been the better move. Eagles1st
Yay! efdawson
The future is here !!!! Werth moves to CF BRown in RF kdubs215- Let's give this guy a few games before we start booing him and writing him off, shall we?
I'm sure some idiots will be booing him after he strikes out for the first time. alihajishank
So the chorus of "We don't want to start his clock and then stop it to send him back down" has been disobeyed? Or this is a sign that Werth will be moved, and they got an opportunity to start the clock a few games early. Really excited to see this kid play. Chutley26
He had better be starting in right. He did not come up here to sit on the bench! matty177
Good luck Dom!! F. Harry Stowe
