Victorino out with lower back stiffness

POSTED: Wednesday, August 13, 2008, 12:13 AM

Just received word here in the press box that Shane Victorino is out of tonight's game because of lower back stiffness. He struck out in the top of the seventh, but was replaced in center field by Jayson Werth at the bottom of the seventh. So Taguchi replaced Werth in right field.

No immediate word on the severity of said stiffness.

Phils lead it 3-2, thanks in large part to Cole Hamels (7 IP, RBI single).

I wanted to post a general comment about a mistake that has been published in your Tuesday's issue of The PHiladelphia Daily news. It is being said that Chase Utley has now hit 30 homers and 30 doubles in back to back seasons but her only had 22 homers last year, also the announcers on comcast have said the same thing, he had 30 homers two years ago. Thanks.

Good, he's a prime example of what's wrong with this team anyway. Yet, what do we do to improve the team, get Scott Eyre? The front office needs to wake up and claim Gary Sheffield off waivers.

Matt, you're kidding? Sheffield is available? What an upgrade he would be to the team.

That's great. He is the only one that plays with a little heart. And is anyone with me yet? If Dodds can't pinch hit, why don't we use Cole?

Tigers placed him on waivers yesterday because he's unhappy being a DH, put him in RF so I never have to see Geoff Jenkins again.

You can forget about Sheffield. Phils are way to cheap to pay for him. And he still has another year on his contract worth 14 mil. He has been playing terrible too.

I agree Sheff would be a huge addition to this team. He would do wonders for the lineup and morale of the team. I'd rather see him up there in a pinch hit situation than Bruntlett, Cervenak, Ruiz etc... Might be a huge pick up if Shane is hurt

Call the Sixers, maybe they'll pay the 14 million left on Sheffields contract.

Beef69, if Dodds can't pinch hit maybe we should pinch hit Dobb's. Dude you got the mad cow disease or something? How long have you been calling Greg....Dodd's? I thought it was a typo but the 'd' key is pretty far away from the 'b' key.

I also heard reported earlier today that Ruiz has got a stiff neck. Seems that he swallowed a Viagra pill and it got caught in his throat.

Shef has been with 7 or 8 teams. He is Kenny Lofton type, pouts, always hurt, recently said Yanks and Torre were racist, has not been happy with Tigers and Leyland. And you guys want him ?

Add to the discussion that Sheffield can no longer play the outfield full time, which is why he is the DH.

Sheff would be a terrible addition. Hes hitting .220 this year, and he makes 14 million for next year? That better not happen. Lets bring up Golson.

Since no one is really hitting in the clutch, why not bring Lehigh up post haste and bench everybody?? The frustration of and for and with this team is starting to drive all fans to depths of despair. I cannot see this turnabout that many write about. Perhaps the Marlins and Mets will just collapse again and the Phils will limp into the Division win . I just am too old to wait for this team. Living here in SoCal as the only Phillies fan in a state with 37 million people, I will have to watch the Angels once in a while to keep from total depression!!!!
