Vegas likes the Cliff Lee signing
David Murphy, Daily News Staff Writer
Maybe those of you who had your hearts and wallets broken by Jacoby Jones two-point conversion catch that sent last night's game to overtime (Texans were +3, ended up losing by six on an interception return for a touchdown), can roll your losses into a futures bet on the Phillies.
It won't pay as much as it would have before last night.
After news of the Cliff Lee deal broke, the Phillies became 7/2 favorites to win the 2011 World Series, according to the sports book at Bodog.com.
They opened the offseason at 6/1, trailing the Yankees, who were at 4/1.
Other odds of note:
Red Sox 5/1
Yankees 6/1
Giants 12/1
Twins 18/1
Cards 18/1
Braves 20/1
Reds 20/1
Rockies 20/1
Rays 20/1
Rangers 20/1
Mets 35/1
Over/Under on Phillies regular season wins in 2011: 96
. . .on Cliff Lee total wins: 17
. . .on total wins by Phillies Big 4: 61
Anybody have a good idea for a new screen name? CLIFF LEE IS GONE...STOP WHINING!
The 1971 Orioles had a 4 man rotation. Comparison is invalid. ALJ
Great move,Ruben the master GM! Now just tighten up the outfield and bring on spring training. steveb3- Trade Rollins and Kendrick for a right handed hitter who can bat .300 and hit 25 homers.
Orange, How about trading Palonco and signing Beltrane. ALJ
Sooooo....what's new? TBear
hey alj, who the hell is beltrane? at least have a clue who you are talking about. Beltre is correct. Rhino has it right and move valdez to ss where he can hit .225 and field .990, but defense is needed with this pitching staff. jpenny
We have the best pitchers... Great! Now can we get someone who can actually hit the ball?! I believe that was the problem last season. Nobody hit the ball! You cant win by pitching alone folks! Somebody wake up Ryan Howard since we sold out to him. cemego
over/under is 96? I'll take the over...way over. This team can win 110 games with that rotation. Eilex826
It's easy now to see why people were saying Ruben looked so smug...it was hard not to look that way knowing what he knew....the cat was ready to eat that canary... stan the man too
For the dufus who insists "we" sold out to Ryan Howard: unless you're part of ownership, it ain't "we". Secondly, speak for yourself, and don't appear to represent "we". Third, the Phils decided to give him that contract. It wasn't as if he was in the corner holding his breath for the money. Lastly, I'll bet that once Pujols signs, Howard will be the third highest paid 1st basemen in the league, which is about right. beegal99

I am delighted he is comming here!!! But I am thrilled that someone had the guts to look at something other than $$$$$. How much money do these players need, I laugh everytime I hear one of them say they are taking the money for the good of their family. GIVE ME A BREAK!! Mr. Lee took less because he thought he would be happier here. Didn't Polanco do the same thing last year? It says a lot about the Phillies organization and the members of the team. lefty27
I live in NC, and have a bakery full of Yankees fans working for me. Well, none of them heard the news when they got to work at 3am. I asked someone what they thought of Lee signing, and they said it was about time he cam to the Bronx. The whining about how he was a loser that the Yanks did not need anyway was music to my ears for the rest of the day.
I cannot wait to come home for the opening series. The ovation when Cliff takes the mound will last longer than the inning itself.

Lefty27 is right. At a certain point I cannot imagine the money means much, and it has more to do with one's professional experience. It is awesome the Phillies organization and the Phillies fans made him feel so much at home here in Philly. Welcome back, Cliff Lee. gfstallin
