Three quick pre-game notes before I run downstairs to the clubhouse.

1) Chase Utley has been named the National League Player of the Week, which shouldn't come as a suprise to anybody who actually watched Utley this past week. He hit home runs in six of the Phillies' seven games, including his 20th of the season yesterday.

2) Carlos Ruiz, who suffered a hand contusion Saturday night, missed last night's game and is not in the lineup tonight. I'll be checking on him shortly.

Here's the lineup:.

1. Jimmy Rollins SS

2. Shane Victorino CF

3. Chase Utley 2B

4. Ryan Howard 1B

5. Pat Burrell LF

6. Geoff Jenkins RF

7. Pedro Feliz 3B

8. Chris Coste C

9. Kyle Kendrick RHP

3) Kris Benson was scratched from his first minor league rehab start for Class A Clearwater with discomfort in his right biceps. Beson had been scheduled to throw about 75 pitches against Tampa.

David, what do you think the Phillies should do in the outfield? They have jostling guys around out there all season, so far its worked. Would you trade an outfielder for some pitching?

Shuffling around outfielders worked for the 93 team...Incaviglia, Thompson, Dykstra, Eisenreich and Chamberlain each started over 70 games that season.

the padres gamble on pryor blew up on them recently...let's hope our benson gamble doesnt do the same. any chance the phils skip hamels a start? how much of his struggles recently is due to arm wear and tear? his durability scares me a bit.

Carlos Ruiz can sit every day as far as I'm concerned. Chris Coste is a better hitter and seems to get better results from the pitchers when he catches. I did hear Coste on 610WIP say that he prefers to just play 2-3 times a week. It's actually a pleasure to hear a player who seems to know his limits.

This Benson thing is turning into a joke. Every time he does anything strenuous (if you can call throwing 75 pitches to little leaguers strenuous) he hurts another part of his body. And every day that passes, we are reminded he can opt out of his contract. Opt out already! Let another team pay his medical expenses. By the way, where's his wife been? At least we can get a little entertainment for our money.

GHOSTPHAYCE - If it was easy as trading an outfielder for a reliable No. 2 or No. 3 starter, of course I'd do it. But I don't think it's that easy. Victorino is probably the only guy teams would be interested in, but I can't imagine that he alone would be fetch anything quality. If the Indians said - hey, we'll give you C.C. Sabathia for Shane Victorino straight up, I'd do it in a second. But like I said, I don't think its that easy.
