It seemed appropriate: crowd roaring, towels waving, that familiar siren signaling his entrance.

Brad Lidge trotted out to the mound and did what he has all season.

This time, it wasn't just a game that was saved, but a regular season campaign, which came to a stirring end yesterday with a 4-3 victory that capped off the Phillies second straight National League East title.

There is still another game to play, but in the grand scheme of things, it is meaningless. Cole Hamels will be ready for the divisional playoffs, which begin Wednesday at Citizens Bank Park and will feature either the Dodgers or the Brewers.

More to come. I'm heading down to the clubhouse.

Seriously? You couldn't get the score right? Further more, if you can't get a picture from this year, why bother posting a picture at all? Act like you know what you're doing, man. You write for one of two newspapers in a major city.

@severthetoe How about you tell all of us where you work and we all show up there and hassle you?

Severthetoe is correct, Jeffrey. Shoddy work on the part of the DN. Nonetheless, a great time to be a Phillies fan. The big three---Ultey, Howard and JRol--came up BIG in September when it mattered.

I am just trying to figure out why they felt the need to post last year's celebration.

Goofs or not, I'll see The Double Play in my mind forever, Fitting that Jamie Moyer got the win. 45 and he has 16 wins. Amazing. And Lidge with another episode of the banana-peeled tightrope walk. But that double play....!!!!!

AP exchange, which provides photos to subscribers at all news operations, has provided a dozen in game photos, plus post game celebrations. I too am surprised that a new photo was not used in Dave's blog. Remember folks, this is the brave new world of new media. Sometimes its done quickly and well, sometimes its just done quickly.

btw, for an example of done quickly and well, check out Will Bunch's piece. Clip of game winning call (a keeper, and soon to be my ringtone), plus perspective and link to great plays in Phils history. For some, this is a job, for others, its a passion. For regular readers, its easy to pick out which writer takes it like one or the other.
