TAMPA -- Chase Utley’s second game in extended spring training was a little bit more difficult than the first.

Utley went 1-for-7 today against the Yankees, with his only hit coming on an infield single. Five of his at-bats came against right-handers and two against left-handers.

Utley hit just one ball out of the infield, a flyout to centerfield. He also struck out twice.

He played four innings defensively, the first and second, and then the fourth and fifth.

“It was good,” Utley said. “I played a little bit. I got to go back to back in the field a couple of different times.

“So far, so good.”

Defensively, Utley had to leap to catch a throw from the catcher on a stolen base attempt.

Asked if there were any problems with making that play, Utley said, “Not yet.”

As for what’s next, Utley said he was uncertain. Initially, the Phillies were reluctant to have play on consecutive days, but Tuesday’s game against the Yankees in Clearwater is a possibility.

“I’m not sure what the plan is yet,” he said. “I’ve got to talk to Ruben [Amaro] and [trainer] Scott Sheridan to see what the next step is.”

Among the Phillies’ brass in attendance were Chuck LaMar, the assistant general manager for player development, and pro scout Del Unser.

Utley has been sidelined all season with a knee problem.

In his first game in extended spring training on Saturday, he went 5-for-7, with a pair of home runs.

At the plate in his two extended spring games Utley is a total of 6-for-14 -- 0-for-5 with two strikeouts and only one ball hit out of the infield against righthanders, all today.  Against lefties, Utley is 6-for-9 with two homers and four singles.

In other news, the Phillies activated Joe Blanton from the 15-day disabled list and he will start tonight against the Florida Marlins.

He takes the spot of Carlos Ruiz, who was placed on the DL yesterday with back problems. Ruiz is with the team in Miami and is expected to take batting practice and catch a bullpen before he heads over to extended spring training for a few days in Clearwater.

Here is the Phillies lineup:

1. Rollins. SS

2. Victorino, CF

3. Polanco, 3B

4. Howard, 1B

5. Ibanez, LF

6. Gload, RF

7. Orr, 2B

8. Schneider, C

9. Blanton, P

Roy Oswalt will pitch for Class A Clearwater on Thursday, assuming he comes out of a bullpen session tomorrow with no issues, and is being targeted to return Tuesday at St. Loius.

Oswalt has not pitched since April 26 and was placed on the disabled list Friday.

Cole Hamels will start Friday in Atlanta.
