Seeking to avoid a team-wide outbreak of the flu, the Phillies have sent utlity player Greg Dobbs back to Philadelphia, although the team is optimistic that he will be available to play on Saturday. Dobbs is the second member of the Phillies' traveling team to be stricken with the flu -- reliever Tyler Walker, who is not on the World Series roster but has traveled with the team throughout the playoffs, was previously sent home.

Dobbs obviously will not be able to play tonight. Veteran Matt Stairs, who has hit two home runs in his career off Blue Jays righthander A.J. Burnett, is in the starting line-up.

Amaro said the Phillies' training staff is optimistic that Dobbs will be available for action in Game 3.

Phillies line-up:

  1. Jimmy Rollins SS
  2. Shane Victorino CF
  3. Chase Utley 2B
  4. Ryan Howard 1B
  5. Jayson Werth RF
  6. Raul Ibanez LF
  7. Matt Stairs DH
  8. Pedro Feliz 3B
  9. Carlos Ruiz C

This is the right line-up tonight for sure. Francisco can come in as a defensive replacement for Ibanez as needed. If that happens, that only leaves Bruntlett and Bako on the bench and ... oh, wait, I forgot, American League rules for one more night before we get back to Philly for some real baseball. We're fine.

I don't think so. Dobbs is most valuable pinch hitting, let's say for Feliz, and staying at 3rd. If you DH him and later he needs to play a position then you lose the DH and the pitcher has to hit. Stairs is more expendable.

Can we DH for Feliz and let Pedro hit?

Glad to see the Yankees already showing a little bit of panic and tinkering with their line-up. Swisher hasn't hit for anything but it's only Game 2 of the Series and Hairston hasn't played RF in 3 months. Also, Girardi says he likes Hairston's numbers against Pedro but he hasn't faced Pedro in 5 years. Girardi is a slave to the stats. He definitely "over" manages things. Taking Swisher and Posada out of their line-up is a significant reduction in the overall power in the line-up.

Should have sent Dobbs over to the Yankees clubhouse instead of home.

I really hope we don't see guys dropping like flies because of this. That would be absolutely tragic. Instead of sending Dobbs home, we should have sent him over to the Yankees clubhouse and them hang out with him.

If the Phillies training staff can cure Dobbs by Saturday, maybe we should put them in charge of a national health care plan.

"Veteran Matt Stairs, who has hit two home runs in his career off Blue Jays righthander A.J. Burnett . . ." I though Burnett was on the Yankees, not the Blue Jays.

Last year Mother Nature tried to stop us. This year the flu bug. We all know how things worked-out for Mother Nature last year now, don't we?

Why is that home plate umpire a major league umpire Thelast strile to Hoard and A-Rod were pathetic. You just had to come close tog et a strike. The first base umpire missed the calls on the line drive to Howard and Utley was safe. Charlie should have had them running in the 8th. That's not a second guess that is the baseball play. Phills had just one good at bat against Burnett Ruiz doublr.

Don w used to teach spelling as part of the team teaching concept. His role was "before."
