Some pre-game trash talk

POSTED: Thursday, September 2, 2010, 6:19 PM

Yesterday’s make-up was scheduled at a perfect time for Fox Sports Midwest, who snagged a few minutes with Denver-area natives Roy Halladay and Brad Lidge to promo an upcoming football game between their former high schools.

Lidge’s Cherry Creek High plays Halladay’s Arvada West on Sept. 16 in a showdown between two of the region’s athletic powerhouses. Back in 1995, Lidge was part of a Cherry Creek baseball team that defeated Halladay and Arvada West en route to the state title.

The closer donned a navy windbreaker with his alma mater’s logo, while Halladay wore a white Arvada West T-Shirt while filming the segment.

This is the wonder-bra of headlines Murph, looks great until you get to the actual goods, and then in the end, you feel misled. After last nights fireworks in the Marlins/Nationals game, this is the headline you use for a BS PR piece about Doc and Lidge's old HS playing football against each other? I was hoping it was about our dugouts jawing at each other before the game or during the game last night, that would have been exciting. This is just plain mean.

Oh, those Mountain Westerners and their quaint, small-town ways. Brings a tear to my eyes--sniffle...If only ex-Phil Steve Carlton could put down his weapons and drive his pick-up to Denver to join in the fun.

Agreed Reddgie. Maybe the headline should just read: "Some Pre-game Trash".

The game-time trash was the Rockies bullpen.

Geez, cynical east-coasters. I mean, I'm one too, but come on, can't you have a little fun every decade or so...

They need Phillies to promote their local high school football games in Colorado? Wow, the Phillies really are superstars in the eyes of the nation.

I dont know how anyone could watch last night's game and simply say that the Rockies bullpen sucks. Did you happen to see the PHils bullpen. The Phils won by the slimest margins and really it could have ended worse. PHils go up by 5, then Durbin and Victorino allow them to score 3 quick runs. Contreras was in trouble, Lidge was in trouble. The bullpen walked a TON of hitters, the Phils bullpen doesnt give me a lot of confindence for the playoffs,if they make the playoffs.

Over_Exposed: Can't you just enjoy the Phillies winning ways? Do you have to be a downer? Gee..nineteen games over .500 and you have to post something like you did.

Hey, news flash for all your critics... the writers don't write the headlines. That's done by some anonymous editor on the copy desk.
