Should the Phillies have tinkered with Dom Brown?

POSTED: Tuesday, March 15, 2011, 12:34 PM

It's Week Three of "That's Baseball," where this week three drowsy and slightly hung over sports writers gathered at the Tiki Bar at Bright House Field on a beautiful Sunday morning and took about three hours to shoot a seven minute video.

The big question debated by me, Phil Sheridan and Kevin Roberts was the Phillies' handling of Domonic Brown this spring. Personally, I don't think you can blame Charlie Manuel or Greg Gross for suggesting the modification in Brown's hand positions. These guys have been around the game a long time, and their goal is to get him ready for the long run, not just the 2011 competition for right field. But Phil and Kevin disagree.

Feel free to chime in with your thoughts on the situation.

Two other questions addressed:

1) Has John Mayberry Jr. earned a spot on the Opening Day roster, or should the Phillies look outside the organization for outfield depth?

2) Is there any downside to Ruben Amaro Jr.'s contract extension?

Big thanks to Kevin for joining us. For those of you who are not familiar with him, he was an outstanding reporter and writer for a lot of years for the Camden Courier-Post before he moved on to serve humanity in a greater capacity.

He now works for a non-profit in Philly and is busy organizing and promoting their annual event, "Knock out Homelessness."

Shouldn't have changed his swing. He was killing it in the minors with his orginal swing. Problem after his call up wasn't his swing, it was he was playing on random days with long streches of being on the bench...

Totally agree with FightinPhil, Brown didn't play enough last year to make such a huge change, the guy had dominated at every level with that stance. Hopefully he can get his confidence back with a few weeks at Lehigh Valley & come up mid May.

Dominated at every level?? He sure looked overmatched after he reached the majors. And how about his winter league experience. Yeah, he dominated all right...
