It's been a hectic week as Scott Proefrock and Co. have blown through their arbitration cases like they had somewhere better to be on Feb. 1.

The theme of the offseason has been cost-certainty, particularly through 2012. The Phillies doled out three-year contracts to Roy Halladay, Placido Polanco, Joe Blanton, Shane Victorino and Carlos Ruiz, bringing their payroll for this season to $137.745 million, when factoring estimated salries for J.A. Happ and Ben Francisco. Most remarkable is where they stand for next season, with $130.35 million guaranteed to 15 players. Barring an increase in payroll, it could be a silent 2010 offseason with seven-of-eight regulars and four-of-five starters under contract.

Anyway, figured I'd lay out the numbers now that the numbers have died down:

Good job Mr. Murphy. Good information to have when thinking about the future of Jayson Werth, Ryan Howard, and Jimmy Rollins on this team. In order to keep all 3 (or even 2 of the 3) some of those bullpen spots are going to need to be filled by young, cheap guys. Mathieson and Bastardo getting some time this year to prove themselves would be nice so the team knows what they have going forward.

If they keep making the postseason and ticket prices increase at the current rate, we shouldn't have too much to worry about with payroll. Obviously, Werth is the biggest looming decision determined by how much he'll want and how much Domonic Brown progresses (which seems like a formality- this kid has it all). Ideally, we sign Werth to a deal for a little bit more than Ibanez is making, then somehow jettison Raul if possible. Business is business as we are all aware of.

Good update Dave. I always wondered why Jenkins wasn't picked up last year by anyone? Age? Contract?

Murphy - Rollins has another $1M payout of his singing bonus this year - should be $8.5M. For Polanco, I have 5.25M in 2010 and $5.5M in 2011. For Lidge, I believe his 1.5M sign-on bonus was paid over the three guaranteed years for $12M per year for 2009 to 2011.

hey jroll, think before you post. Lidge was perfect in 2008. I agree he was terrible in 2009 but what makes you think he's gonna be so bad again that you say "thank god" he won't be back? What part of perfect don't you appreciate enough to give the guy a break and hope he returns to 2008 form? It's fun to sit in front of a computer and type anonymous vitriol, isn't it. No accountability on these boards. I wish I could search old posts cause you were prolly ready to annoint him into sainthood after 2008. So quick to turn you anonymous, computer armchair quarterback genius. I am a Phillies fan and if Lidge is a Phillie then I am a fan of his. I hope he does so well in 2010 that the Phillies pick up his option. Is that wrong?

Boy, Lidge's salary is really the sore thumb, this year and next year. By the way, the Yankees signed Randy Winn today instead of re-signing Damon. They said they couldn't afford the dollars that Damon was looking for. Even the Yankees can't afford every single player they want. Every team, even the Yankees, has a budget to work with. Enough with the cheap talk when it comes to the Phillies. They put together a very good team and assembled a lot of talent on this team the last few years. That's not a bargain basement team.

If any team right now, at the All Star Break, in July would take Raul with some sweeteners, the Phils should do it. My guess is Raul will not have the really wonderful first half that he did in 2009. If I am wrong, it is all to the good for the team.

Don't like to comment on screen names, but "Charlie Mustgo"??? Are you kidding me? I'm pretty sure he is a member of a pretty exclusive fraternity in this town. And he is by himself in terms of current coaches. So please stop. Stupidity is what stupidity names himself.

I'm not sure I see Lidge's salary as a sore thumb. He's in a pretty valuble role, and that salary isn't out of line with top relievers in the game, which he has performed as in the past. Not always, of course, but if 09 was just an off year, that figure seems in the ballpark for his work. The thought of trading Ibanez is awfully optimistic. It's not like with Jim Thome where its no defense at all, but the market for an outfielder his age with 11 million plus for up to 2 years is not all that movable. Outfielders aren't exactly a dime a dozen, but they could have moved him this winter, for prospects, and kept Cliff Lee, and signed someone like Damon to fill the gap until Domonic Brown is ready. They would not have gotten the quality of prospects they did for Lee, but they'd have had Lee for another year. The problem is that Ibanez's contract is not all that tradable. If it were, I'd have liked to have seen if they could have attempted that strategy. Am I missing something?

The difference between the phils and yanks..... They have pitching and went with+\ similar talent saving money......The Phils I heard are dumpster diving for pitchers (ed wade like)
