Phillies special assistant Charley Kerfeld was spotted in Baltimore scouting the Blue Jays-Orioles series over the weekend and followed Toronto to Kansas City for their series against the Royals.
Jays pitchers he could be looking at include lefthander Scott Downs and righthanders Kevin Gregg and Jason Frasor. The Phillies might also be interested in righthander Shawn Camp, but Toronto is considered unlikely to trade him.
Toronto is believed to be looking for younger players in return who wouldn’t necessarily have to be major league ready.
Meanwhile, the Baltimore Sun reports that talks with the Phillies regarding infielders Miguel Tejada and Ty Wigginton are “dead.” The story added: “With two weeks remaining before the trade deadline, things could change, especially if the Orioles’ asking price for Wigginton drops. But as of right now, there isn’t much going on between the two teams.”
And according to the San Francisco Chronicle, Oakland A’s righthander Ben Sheets remains a target of the Phillies, Twins and other teams.
