Ryan Howard's pick for the Super Bowl (and some other stuff)

POSTED: Friday, December 19, 2008, 1:53 PM

First off, Ryan Howard indicated a couple of days ago that there hasn't been much movement on a potential multi-year contract extension. Big deal? Not really. He's under club control through 2011, so there really is no rush. But he'll likely receive another healthy raise this season (he made $10 million) last year.

But that's another topic for another day. Thought you all might be interested in who he is picking to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl.

For obvious reasons, it isn't his hometown Rams.

It's his adopted-hometown Eagles.

"I think if the Eagles get in, watch out," Howard said. "And that's not just because I play for Philly. I think they've got a lot of momentum going. And I think if they get in, they'll take that momentum and keep going with it."

Check out the piece in today's Daily News for more offseason insights from Howard and Jimmy Rollins.

Yo Murph, I think everybody is buying toys or something. Let’s change the subject. I think the Mets are having the best off-season so far in the East Division. Do you agree? BTW, the search for that extra outfielder/RH bat got a little tougher now for the Phillies. Juan Rivera resigned with the Angels today. He got 3 years for $12 Mil.

I mean, he got 12 millions for 3 years. Not bad.

Don't worry. Joe Mayburry will be big guy. Or is it Mayberry??

Its John Mayberry, and he will not be a factor this season, they will go outside the organization for the right handed bat, its a shame rivera resigned, he would have been a great fit.

Actually, Jeff Stone would be great for the Phillies and specially for the reporters and us. One time he said he left his TV in Puerto Rico after playing Winter ball because it only played Spanish channels. Awesome.

Jeff Stone would be great in a comedy show, I agree. As for on the team, I think you've hit the eggnog a bit early this year Zorro...
