Rule 7.08

POSTED: Monday, August 23, 2010, 11:39 PM

"7.08 -Any runner is out when -- (a) (1) He runs more than three feet away from his baseline to avoid being tagged unless his action is to avoid interference with a fielder fielding a batted ball. A runner’s baseline is established when the tag attempt occurs and is a straight line from the runner to the base he is attempting to reach safely; or (2) after touching first base, he leaves the baseline, obviously abandoning his effort to touch the next base

Umpire Gibson has a brother who runs numbers out of Vegas. The smart money got the game outcome it was looking for tonight.

the rule doesn't concern me as much as the same umpire calling Victorino out earlier in the season in almost the exact same situation.

Who cares. When Howard and Utley were out, the team found a way to win smart with small ball. Now they are back, and everyone wants a HR at every at bat, so get ready for another slump.

Let's face it, he was out, but that's not the problem. Brainless Werth getting picked of second AGAIN; Valdez not getting a bunt down; and finally star players unable to drive in RISP (you hear me Victorino)?

Greg Gibson is a dead ringer for SC Senator Lindsey Graham.

FYI, Victorino is not a star player, never was!

It doesn't matter, Howard tagged Bourne and it could be seen clearly on the replay. It's a bad break for the Phillies who could have gained a ground on the Braves who lost later that evening in Colorado.

n62, brilliant, the phils are better off without howard and utley in the lineup. they were playing well for a stretch, but players like gload, valdez, and the like, will be exposed if playing every day over a long period of time. you must be suffering from ritard syndrome.
