Ron Burgundy, meet Chase Utley

Look at it this way: Chase Utley probably isn't the first person to tell New York sports fans to [bleep] off.
Although such comments generally play well in a city that has never hid its displeasure for its neighbor to the North, Utley apologized last night for a remark that was caught by a live ESPN microphone during introductions for last night’s Home Run Derby at Yankee Stadium.
After the Phillies second baseman heard a chorus of boos from the crowd when he was introduced for last night’s derby, Utley was heard responding, “Boo? [Bleep] you.”
A clip of the remark was posted on the internet video site YouTube within an hour of when it occurred.
Utley, who was eliminated after hitting five home runs in the first round, later apologized.
“It was a poor choice of words,” he said. “I didn’t mean anything by it. I was kind of joking around with my buddy over there so I do want to apologize”
Utley was wearing a microphone for ESPN, but it isn’t clear how the remark made it over the airwaves. A spokesman for ESPN said the network was still investigating the remark and would issue a statement sometime after the conclusion of last night’s telecast.
Good for Chase. To hell with those moron New York sports fans. Here's a guy that is by all accounts a class act and possibly the best second baseman of his generation and they shower him with boos. I was thinking the same thing at home that he verbalized on air. Dr. Martin von Nostrand
One more reason to be a Chase Utley fan! mphils
Chase has no need to worry, his hometown fans are behind him 100 percent... bsktblldn619
GO CHASE! Chase was already my favorite Phillies player, and he just became even more of my favorite! I only wish his comment had been made over the PA system. maximusud
FRANKLY, YES, I'm disappointed in Chase Utley. I thought he was the type of person that would place himself above that sort of behavior. Especially since he knew he had a microphone on. ANGRY MEL
Behavior? When is saying a word that contains 4 letters of the alphabet like every other word on the planet bad behavior? johnnysanz3
The bigger story is that the classless New York fans booed in the first place. That would have been national news if it happened in Philadelphia. doorspj24
booing Chase? NY fans must still be living in last year..... brad21- If this doesn't clinch the MVP award for him, what will? TVGuy22
Probably the nicest thing anyone's said to them in a long time HappyPete
I assume this is the language used in all clubhouses so I am not surprised it came out--the surprise is that he was booed--why? and that like a lot of things where was ESPN--aren't all such situations with a 5-7 sec delay? kokomo
we only boo santa, we don't boo all stars. If santa could hit 25 HRs he wouldn't have been booed jeff gross
^ In fairness, we would boo David Wright. As we should. Reggie Noble
And I would understand if David Right said f-you when we do boo him. Gary Varsho
^Exactly Reggie Noble
They booed the Red Sox guys at Yankee Stadium too. It's nothing personal; it just is with the rivalry. And I don't think Philly fans are generally in a position to call out "classless" behavior by other fans considering the storied history in this town (booing Mike Schmidt, cheering when Michael Irvin went down with a broken neck, cursing at kids and mothers wearing an opposing team's jerseys at the Linc, etc.). johne118
CHASE UTLEY.......YOU ARE THE MAN !!!!!!!! phillybob
While it would have been more classy to just ignore the NYers, Chase just had a slip of the tongue like a lot of us do. I'm sure he wishes he had it back only because of the fact he had the mic on. Wally Ritchie
