Lefty reliever J.C. Romero, who was activated from the disabled list on Monday (he had been on it since July 23 with a strained left forearm), pitched one inning against Houston on Tuesday, gave up two hits in his first appearance since July 19 vs. Florida.

He has been shut down for the rest of the year after seeking a second medical opinion.

Said manager Charlie Manuel: “I’ve kind of known it all along [that Romero eventually would be shut down]. He’s been hurt. It seems like he always gets set back, set back whenever he pitches or tries to pitch.

“I knew there was going to come a day when it was one way or the other. I guess we got the other.”

Righty reliever Chan Ho Park, whose last appearance was Sept. 16 vs. Washington (he had been on the DL with a strained right hamstring), almost certainly will miss the first round of the playoffs. He injured his arm during an instructional league in Florida on Thursday.

“Chan Ho, I don’t think, is going to make this first round — unless we get a miracle,” Manuel said.

Said Park: “I’m still waiting for the doctor [Phillies team physician Michael Ciccotti]. I did an MRI in the morning today [Friday] It’s too bad. I had damn good stuff. I felt so good, my arm felt really strong.”

JC was huge in the playoffs last year--he will be missed.

Did anyone really think he was going to make it back? Besides, they needed the roster spot. Not really a surprise.... On a different note, is anyone comfortable with this pitching staff heading into post-season?

The starters need to go long every time out.

Aside from Happ, nothing much to feel good about. I think it'll be a very short postseason.

aside from Happ? Even though our team's ERA was best since all-star break...just Happ eh? Yea, starting pitching has been a bit down, but so has our offense. They won when it mattered....

I don't like the Fightins chances with all the injuries...too bad. I will still be hopeful and pull for them as always.

scootch -- what is going on with these starters or for that matter all the pitching staff? They have fallen apart almost over night and all bear a strong resembelence to the batting practice pitcher. At this rate we may lose the first round 3-0. What happened to all the this is what we live for talk where did that go. At this rate we may as well see if Adam Eaton is still available.

Team does not deserve our support-the front office did nothing to strengthen the bullpen when it was obvious that it was a weak link in July. No excuse for them-they will always be a 2nd class organization

What ever happened to Bastardo? He's a Dodger killer.

Hey Wally...seems like everyone hit the "wall" at the same time. They are all tired. They are probably all hurt. No one can hit a spot and they are forced to groove it. Give em credit...it's actually difficult enough just to make the playoffs the year after the W.S...let alone repeat. Looking back, It's been a struggle all year but they gutted out a division crown. I am afraid it's the end of the line though.

hey, why dont you guys check your philly card...or did you leave it back in jersey? Please, dont try to differentiate "realism" from "bandwagon" while you search for the card. As my uncle says, "Get those negative vibes outta here" p.s. that goes for all Philly teams.

djmarco: You must be kidding. They spend the money, and they're in post-season for three years running, for the first time since 176 through 1978. They won the Series last year. It's awfully hard to repeat. They play hard. That's all we can ask for.
