Rollins return not imminent

POSTED: Tuesday, September 14, 2010, 6:07 PM

Jimmy Rollins said he is hoping that he will return to the Phillies line-up before the end of the regular season. But that's about as specific of a timetable as we can gather right now with regards to the short stop's strained right hamstring.

"I hope so," Rollins said when asked if he thought he'd be ready by the end of the regular season. "Studies show, even if it's a mild hamstring, even though the doctors like to say 7-to-10 days, it's usually three weeks. And that's at the mildest, before I can go and do what I need to do. But I'm not going to have three weeks. Three weeks, that puts us right at the playoffs, so, I'm definitely going to try to do my best to come back before that."

Rollins strained the hamstring last Wednesday.

Neither general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. or manager Charlie Manuel could (or, perhaps, would) say when they expect Rollins back, other than to label him "day-to-day."

As expected, the Phillies have flip-flopped Roy Oswalt and Kyle Kendrick in the rotation, starting Oswalt on Friday against the Nationals and Kendrick on Saturday. The move enables the Phillies to line up Oswalt, Cole Hamels and Roy Halladay for the series against the Braves that starts Monday. Those same three will then be available to pitch the season-ending series against the Braves in Atlanta.

The Marlins have tentatively listed Burke Badenhop as their starter tomorrow.

J.C. Ramirez, one of the three prospects obtained from the Mariners in the Cliff Lee trade, underwent right hip labral surgery. The procedure is similar to the ones that righthander Brett Myers and second baseman Chase Utley underwent in recent years. General manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said he expects Ramirez to be back pitching by spring training.

We may not see J-Roll again until Spring Training.

Kendrick vs Washington this year: 3 starts, 11.2 innings, 16 earned runs. Why would they consider starting Kendrick in CBP against Washington?

2 seasons in a row now that JRoll can not stay healthy. Old Age? Poor conditioning/diet? Who do the Phils have in AAA at SS to be the next star? It's not the guy they just brought up (Bocock) and they already traded Donald to the Sox.

I guess with expanded rosters there's no need to put Jimmy on the DL. I'm beginning to wonder about age creeping up on him though. He can't seem to stay healthy. It seems like he misses a larger chunk of time each season due to these leg and ankle injuries.

I question whether Jimmy trains very hard in the off season. You would think anybody in MLB would, but I guess some guys don't like the weights and wind sprints.

Guess there's no need to DL Jimmy when rosters are already expanded. Suspect Jimmy's in good enough shape, he's just getting a bit older and been getting nicked more for a while now. But we need him...get well, Jimmy.

Don't rush him back. With all the injuries this year, look where the ballclub is now. Valdez has held the fort for most of the year as much as could be expected. Get well soon, J-Roll.

What a baby.. Wow Jimmy. Don't rush it or anything. 3 weeks for a mild hammy? How about some offseason training? Its getting embarrassing. Just DL him already so he can start rehabbing in the minors soon enough.

This news is not surprising, but it is lethal. Even if he's back before the playoffs, what the heck do you do?? Can you possibly bat him leadoff and 'hope' he regains his swing in time? We know with his ego he won't appreciate batting in any other slot. This is a pickle...

It's amazing how a guy goes from playing almost every inning at full bore to being the "softest" player in baseball. Get a clue, expert.

You guys are morons. You love Cliff Lee who is gutless pu$$y, and bust Rollins chops, who is the heart and soul of the best Phillies team ever assembled. Yes, Valdez has done his job as backup well. He is still a poor substitute for a fully healthy Rollins when he is firing on all cylinders. Quit being such haters, you ungrateful frontrunners!
