Rollins placed on disabled list
David Murphy, Daily News Staff Writer
The Phillies just announced they've placed short stop Jimmy Rollins on the disabled list. That means Rollins won't play until at least Monday, May 12.
I'm not down at the ballpark tonight, so that's all I have as of right now.
Rollins injured the ankle April 8. The Phillies said at the time it was a day-to-day thing. When he left for his uncle's funeral in California, manager Charlie Manuel, assistant GM Ruben Amaro Jr. and GM Pat Gillick all said at separate times that they thought there was a chance that Rollins would play this weekend. On Friday, Rollins had an MRI on the ankle, which Amaro said revealed nothing new.
Stay tuned. . .
What did I tell you? This isn't the whole truth either, I'm sure they'll find more damage to the joint somewhere down the road this season....meanwhile we'll be stuck with a very pedestrian Jimmy....... Mark1npt

It's pretty obvious they knew all along that his injury was worse than they told us. Keeping him on the roster for two weeks, thus limiting their bench options, was a disservice to his teammates and us fans. Jeffrey

How many times has this happened with the Phils since the Wade era? Are other teams as inaccurate/dishonest about player injuries? This smells a lot like Bret Myers' 60-day wait on the 15-day DL. Next time the Phils feed us some trash about Kris Benson's anticipated return date, can you also list the dozen previous anticipated return dates we've been fed? Maybe someone at one of the dailies could take a day or two off from running the same Notes columns and High and Inside stuff that's pulled from the wire and analyze the Phils' medical practices against other MLB teams. frankenslade

Another misdignosed by the phillies staff.sure would want these guys as my doctor...unbelievable. Nothing was gain from them trying to conceal the fact. He should have been on the DL the very next day. utleyMVP08
This injury was in eversion sprain, not the typical inversion sprain that most of us suffer. It is way more dangerous and potentially more injurious to the ankle joint. As I said before there is probably some cartilage damage as well as ligament and it will seriously curtail many facets of Jimmy's game....get used to it whenever he does return. Mark1npt
Spot duty might be all we get from Jimmy if he is injured worse than thought and if he chooses to continue to try playing on it all season....arthroscopic surgery and rest mixed in with a little prayers may be what's needed to fix this thing right. But then , we wouldn't know, fans are always kept in the dark around here, whether it's the Phils, Eagles or Flyers. Mark1npt

The fact that he was pinch hitting is what ticks me off. With him going in to pinch hit all they have done is move back his date to return. I wanted to trust that him pinch hitting was a very good sign he was nearly ready. The Phillies did themselves and the fans a huge disservice by not immediately placing him on the DL and/or using him as a pinch hitter delaying his return. Shouldn't they be learning from their past stupidity imafanregardless
Hey Murph how long unitl we see Benson playing with the Phillies? JVJ
