Day Eight of Jimmy Watch brought more of the same. Rollins took batting practice and got his first pinch-hit on a ninth-inning single, but didn't start for the seventh straight game. He won't play tomorrow or Friday, regardless of how he feels, as he is scheduled to return to his hometown of Oakland for a family member's funeral.
Talked to Rollins after batting practice, and he sounded convinced he'd be back on the field Saturday. He has a 10 p.m. flight back from Cali Friday night. Saturday is a 3:55 p.m. game. Anyone who saw him run to first tonight realizes why he isn't on the field.
Good to see both Michael Bourn and Kyle Kendrick have success tonight, though one's success came at the expense of the other. The two were teammates for a half a season in 2004 at Class A Lakewood and are pretty good friends. Bourn hit a rare home run tonight of Kendrick and scored both of the Astros runs.
Kendrick, meanwhile, got back to being the pitcher who was so solid for the Phils last season. He allowed 4 hits, 2 runs, and pitched 7 strong while throwing 96 pitches.
The Phillies still can't get above .500/ They are now 7-8.
Sounds like Shane Victorino should be back once his stint on the DL is over. He took batting practice today and will likely make his first rehab start when the Phils hit the road for a seven-game road swing next week.
