Rollins bruises left foot

POSTED: Monday, July 26, 2010, 7:10 PM

More than an hour after the game, Jimmy Rollins was in the Phillies’ training room receiving treatment on his left foot.

The shortstop fouled an 0-1 pitch from Jason Hammel off of the foot in the second inning. Although he fell to the dirt in pain and spent several moments trying to walk it off, Rollins played the duration of the game at short stop.

X-rays on the foot – the official diagnosis is a contusion (bruise) – were negative. A Phillies spokesman said the team would provide any further update tomorrow.

"He fouled a ball off the in-step of his foot, and that was hurting him," manager Charlie Manuel said. "But he wanted to stay in the game."

Also, Charlie Manuel became the fourth Phillies manager in club history to win at least 500 games with the Phillies, joining Gene Mauch (646), Harry Wright (636) and Danny Ozark (594).

Ryan Howard went 0-for-3 with a walk and 3 strikeouts, ending his hitting streak at 11 games.

Rube needs to get an infielder now. I'm tired of seeing Valdez in the lineup.

Cholly learned from his mistake. This time he pulled Blanton in the 6th with runners on and the outcome was different.

In hockey it wouldn't be talked about, that is, no injury at all. One shift and they take more abuse than Jelly roll can absorb. What a man, he actually stayed in the game with a ........ bruise.

It is the Dbacks. Rodrigo Lopez is pitching for them in Haren's place tomorrow. Give JRoll ALL the time he needs.

Bruised foot indicates pooled blood. May be difficult to flex or to move. I dropped a barbell on my thigh; with resultant bruise, I could barely walk.

I'm afraid we don't have a closer that can get it done. Came within a whisker of blowing it the last two days.

Phils dont need an infielder. No point in adding one now with Utley about a month away from returning. Valdez isn't in the lineup for his hitting prowess, its for the fielding (3 errors total between 2nd, SS and 3rd this year). They have the hitters to make up for the lack of Utley.

I don't care if rollin's leg is falling off. NO MORE MISSED GAMES. suck it up, and get out there. Sometimes you just have to play through things, like a bruise.

They should trade Utley, move Polanco and get a right handed hitting third baseman. Then they could trade werth as well and bring up DBrown
