Rollins placed on disabled list
Daily News staff
Shortstop Jimmy Rollins has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a right groin strain suffered yesterday against Washington.
To fill his spot on the 25-man roster, the club activated third baseman Placido Polanco from the disabled list.
Rollins, 32, is hitting .268 this season with 22 doubles, 14 HR, 58 RBI, 79 runs and 28 stolen bases. He has appeared in 121 of the Phillies’ 125 games while committing just five errors in 504 total chances (.990 fielding percentage).
Yesterday, after chasing down a groundball up the middle in the second inning and making a spinning throw to first, the Gold Glove shortstop grimaced in apparent pain. Rollins finished the frame in the field, but was replaced prior to the start of the third.
He was scheduled to have an MRI today.
Manager Charlie Manuel said he did not know when, exactly, Rollins hurt himself. The 32-year-old veteran, who had already left the Phillies clubhouse by the time it was open to reporters, went 0-for-2 with groundouts in the first and second innings.
Polanco, 35, was originally placed on the DL with a sports hernia on August 16 (retroactive to August 7). In 89 games this season, he is batting .275 with 40 RBI and 35 runs while posting a .976 fielding percentage, second-best among all NL third basemen.

- Plug in Valdez or Mini Mart and put Polly in the two hole behind Shane and we will be alright. PhilsFN1

The two words that best describe Jose Reyes: Hamstring Issues NewMick314
Jroll will be back playing in September, getting ready for the playoff run. frank105
Bring up Galvis and see what he's got...perfect time to do so! larryv
I know Reyes is having a career year, despite the usual injury. But what I see on the field makes me believe his personality is so contrary to what I perceive our team to be he wouldn't be worrth even at a bargain basement price (which of course would never happen). I don't think he would be a good clubhouse mix....we would be starting a dangerous precendet bringgin in a me first guy Clem- Reyes would poison the Phillies....Reyes is exactly the opposite of the TEAM PLAYERS the Phils have now....Reyes is a selfish me, me,me player and a showboat hot dog..Phils will avoid him at all cost.

Scootch, I been saying Jose for about a month. We'll pick him up next year and move on. A great move but J-Roll is very Loyal but remember it's a business. joedig22
Agree with larryv...see what this kid has... Phillyfan666
I agree that its time to see what Galvis can do. And I guess you are stuck with Valdez & Mini Mart @ third on Wednesday when Polanco goes back to the DL. Maybe we can swing a waiver deal for that Greg Dobbs?? FetchDixon
Lonewolf10 - let's see if he can make the throw from the hole! What kinda range you got Lone....? Dadof24
Let me know when this sounds familiar. Rollins hurts leg, rushes back the week before the playoffs, completely ineffectual in playoffs. It's 2010 all over again, which is a shame because it's gonna cost him some money and a spot on the phils next season Nichols1088
