Polanco surgery update

POSTED: Friday, October 29, 2010, 3:13 PM

Phillies third baseman Placido Polanco had surgery on his left elbow today performed by team physician Dr. Michael Ciccotti.

"It went very well and we are fully expecting Placido to be 100 percent by spring training," general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said in a statement. "Dr. Ciccotti removed spurs from his left elbow and did a debridement and repair of the lateral extensor tendon. Placido will have followup appointments with the doctor over the next several weeks and we hope to have him swinging the bat again within 10 weeks, around early January."

Polanco had four cortisone shots this season, the last on the final weekend of the regular season. Still, he was one of the Phillies’ most consistent hitters, finishing the regular season with a .298 batting average, 52 RBI and 76 runs despite being limited to 132 games by the elbow condition. During the postseason, he hit .207 with four runs and five RBI.

    hello david,
great job again on keeping us informed through out the year.
i want to talk about changes the phillies can make for the
    upcoming year.
jason werth, good player not clutch going to be too expensive
let him go, 2 first round picks sound good to me. we can use that
money on pitching, does cliff lee sound good? one of best starting rotations of all time? i say that cause i read he wants to come
back here and does not want to go to the yankees acconding to his
    wife.
all these have been stated before here is where i am getting the phillies to a magical team. we need a power bat that kills left handed pitching (one of the reasons i am against werth) a power hitting right hander that hits for average, best one available this year and last plays third base and he is real good at third base.
can you see our current third basemen play left field? or just a great multi base player, I THINK SO.
So say get beltre to play third base, let werth walk and raul fly back west to seattle or some where else. I feel we can get better production of right field with a platton of francisco nad brown and placido domingo (joke) playing left. let placido lead off chase 2, beltre 3, ryan 4, chooch 5,jroll 6, platoon right field 7, shane 8
and cliff lee in the rotation
    what is your opinion?

This guy one with one arm had 5 more RBI's than Howard in the post season.

how many other guys are getting fixed this offseason? i think placido was the only one to really acknowledge his ailments.

Wildgreenman - either you're joking around or you've been smoking too many doobs with Tim Lincecum. Starting pitching is the LAST thing the phillies need. Cliff Lee will never wear a Phillies uniform again, start getting used to that idea. Anyone who thinks he will go anywhere other than to the highest bidder has no idea how the business of baseball works. Same goes for Jayson Werth, he has played his last game as a Phillie. Not sure what you find so "unclutch" about him seeing as though he was clearly the team's best all around player in September and October, and is the all time leading post season homerun hitter in the national league. Placido Polanco to left field, are you serious dude? A 35 year old, slow infielder who has never played the outfield? Come on man, he'd be make Ibanez look like Ted Williams out there. I love the "ship Ibanez to some sad sack west coast franchise" move that every armchair GM loves to propost - you know, since there's such a booming market for 39 year old washed up overpaid outfielders with no bat speed anymore. is going nowhere until after next season, nobody wants a 39 year old washed up overpaid outfielder. You're insane. This team needs 3 things - a right handed bat (we already have a 3rd baseman, so it won't be Beltre), middle relief - The Durbin, Romero, Contreras ship has sailed, and to get younger. All the stars are over 30 now, need to start thinking about restocking the squad with some youngsters as these guys age.

contreras is returning dude mark my words, he was the third best reliever on the team.
blanton goes, kendrik stays (he has more upside and is cheaper)I would intite moyer for a tryout he deserves it and given a fair shot to make the team. and btw last i checked beltre is a much better fielder than polanco,
polanco can play all the infield position except catch a much better option than wilson valdez.

Polly had all four of his HR in the first couple weeks, no? I love people's solutions that involve basically changing around the entire make-up of a team that's been to the playoffs four time in a row. And Cliff Lee is not coming here. If they have that kind of money for that many years, they'll bring back Werth. He's right-handed power on a team that desperately needs it, and it gives Dom Brown another year at AAA. And Vic can walk when he gets to FA or trade him for whatever you can get once Brown is ready or etc.etc.etc.

why wouldn't he ever come back here? he said it's the most fun he played in a city. he also said it's a business so i think he understands. i would think that lee is a priority over werth for the phillies. oswalt and hamels have contracts that end next yr so it's not like starting pitching isn't a concern.

Because he wants $25 million dollars and will be 36 by the time we can afford that.

do you follow the phillies like i do?
i wish i was smoking what timmy had, for he is going to be getting a ring very soon and the phllies are talked as has beens already.
look man here is how the phillies play.
(BY THE WAY IT IS EXACTLY HOW CONNIE MACK COACHED)
do not bunt, do not sacrifice, do not hit and run
they rarely steal cause they want the first basemen holding the runner with all the left handed bats.
they swing away and hope for the long ball and bye the way
the ballpark is built for that.
they need a power right handed bat that kills left handed pitching.
I did not say placido playing everyday leftfield i sai supuer utility man that can play left field as well.
and you are crazy if you thing werth is more important than cliff lee
werth was batting .150 with man in sp. and less than .100 with 2 outs
thats what i am talking about not clutch.
ask all the readers here they will agree lee over werth in a heartbeat

Stop with Cliff Lee coming back. What's he gonna be,the 4th Starter? Werth is not coming back. He wants too much money. As much as I hate to admit this, he definetely wasn't clutch this year. Forget about his regular season numbers. The important one was RISP! Not to nit pik, but if you watched the Phils this year with regularity, Werth came up small. By the way, Contreras will be back. Kendrick will be gone and we're going to have Ibanez for one more year,and... he'll play well because it WILL be his last year under contract.

Please get well because we need redemption in one year. The Phillies need to peak next year in October like they did this year in September. Damn it!!!!!!!
