    TBA is definitely a workhorse.

The owners gave Reuben 2 directives: 1) don't spend more than we take in and 2) Don't trade away every prospect to win this year. With this, Reuben knew he couldn't have both Doc & Lee. So he decided on Doc, who would sign long term here. I don't think he did a good job getting value for Lee, but keeping them both was never an option, based on ownership.

Good time for a three-way deal with Blanton going somewhere and the Phils receiving Oswalt in return. Charlie needs to keep his players out of this All-Star game and come out of break with Halladay, Hamels, Oswalt, Moyer. Kendrick and Happ are available down the stretch to fill in as co-5th members of the rotation and pull long duty and two inning relief stints as needed. Ibenez and Werth need to move on to secure a reliable right handed hitting outfielder (Marlon Byrd) and a veteran infielder to play third base (Winnington or Lopez) until Utley returns in September. Palanco returns to play second and Brown gets promoted and bats third between Polanco and Howard. Byrd plays center and bats behind Howard.

HEY--Hamels pitched a gem--but did ya notice-the bats scored just one run? there is still trouble in paradise

Have all you Lee lovers wondered why nobody seems to be willing to pay him enough to keep him? Not the Indians, not the Phillies, not the Mariners. I bet Texas doesn't keep him either. Amaro did what he did because he got a better pitcher than Lee and he was able to sign him to a better deal. Something is not right with Lee. To me he punked out in the World Series. He should have demanded the ball for game 4. Charlie took the hit and said it was his decision but any fool knows if Lee wanted to start Charlie would have let him. I am guessing he is too much about Cliff Lee, and not enough about the team to be a good fit on a winning team.

excellent analysis of the Amaro blunder: http://www.beyondtheboxscore.com/2010/7/12/1565115/setting-a-franchise-back-x-years?ref=CBS

Happ should be bought back up when it doesnt take him 100 pitches to get through 5 innings at AAA ball.

@warbiscuit, as bad as I believed the situation to be, this article you sent out really puts what Amaro did in its proper, sick perspective. The disparity between what he received versus what he sold, in all deals involving Lee and even Halladay, is just hard to believe. then when you throw the ridiculously timed extension to Howard on top of it all and the consequent inability to extend Werth because of it, you're left with only one impression, that of a "boy genius GM" way in over his head.

It's a mystery to me why it took almost 3 months to get Halladay and Hamels, the 1-2 pitchers, slotted correctly. With no off-days until August 2, I guess we're stuck with a random order rotation, something like 4-6-2-1-5, for the foreseeable future. Unless Ruben trades something of value, like a right-handed hitting good defense outfielder for something of less value, like maybe another # 4 starter....

I'd go with the following rotation after the break. Moyer, Halladay (Friday - that would give him 2 days rest following an inning stint in the AS game), Hamels, Blanton, Kendrick.

Kendrick should get the start in this series in place of Blanton based on their performances to date. Maybe the Phils can find a way to leave him in Chicago with the Cubs once they depart!

To all of you who are saying it's time to forget about the Cliff Lee trade, it's not going away. It made no sense and there's not another championship type team (ie. Yankees) that would have made such a move! I predicted it would be the turn of Ruben's and the Phillies good streak. The curse is real!!!!!

Charlie needs to take one for the team and not pitch Doc. He needs to remember who's signing the paychecks.

I'd love to have Lee here - not instead of Halladay but to have them both would have given us the best staff in the majors. But they don't, and its absolutely too soon to assess the propects acquired in the Lee trade.

@advantasux: I know Halladay and Lee would have been great. I would love to have it. They are too cheap, bottom line. My "Halladay is better than Lee" was in reference to some guy saying the rotation would be Lee, Halladay, Hamels... It would/should be Halladay, Lee, Hamels
