Pitching Outlook

It is shaping up to be an interesting four-game series against the Astros next week. Assuming the Astros’ rotation remains in its current order, the Phillies will face former righthander Brett Myers on Monday, Aug. 23 (Cole Hamels is on track to face him in that one), and former lefthander J.A. Happ that Wednesday (Kyle Kendrick would face him).

I wrote in the paper today that Roy Oswalt would face his old team in the series finale, but that is not the case. Oswalt is actually the one Phillies starter who is on pace to miss that series.

The Phillies will miss former righthander Nelson Figueroa, who is scheduled to start for the Astros the night after they leave Philadelphia.

Pitching match-ups for the Phils’ three-game series against the Giants that begins tomorrow:

Tues – LHP Barry Zito (8-6, 3.44) vs. Oswalt (7-13, 3.44)
Wed – RHP Matt Cain vs. RHP Joe Blanton (4-6, 5.69)
Thu – LHP Jonathan Sanchez (8-6, 3.60) vs. Hamels (7-9, 3.33)
