Phils interested in Ross?

POSTED: Monday, August 18, 2008, 9:28 PM

According to a report by FoxSports.com, the Phillies are one team interested in acquiring catcher David Ross, who was released by the Reds Monday. Ross, 31, has hit .223 with a .310 on base percentage in seven major league seasons. He was hitting .231 with a .381 on base percentage in 52 games for the Reds.

Ken Rosenthal is the one reporting this, and he is usually on top of things as far as the Phillies are concerned. Haven't heard back from anyone in the organization, but Ross would make some sense. They could keep him in the minors and then bring him up when the rosters expand in September. Despite Carlos Ruiz's struggles at the plate this season, I doubt they'd send him to Triple A this late in the season, particularly considering how well the Phillies starters have pitched lately. Then again, I could be completely wrong about that.

Rosenthal is saying that the Red Sox are also interested in Ross, so take all of that for what it's worth.

When Phillies ownership put up 10 mill for Howard. I knew then that the Phillies fans would be attending the October games at Citizens Park !!! We all know we need a catcher. We all deserve to be at those October games. Make the change. Make the investment. A word to the wise is sufficent.

Yes, they do need to up grade at catcher as well as a lot of postions, ( but ) not with another .231 player.

The answer is yes, but they should have done so a month ago when Pudge Rodriguez was available!!!!!! I blame it on the Phils ownership-always looking for the CHEAPEST deal!
