Ken Rosenthal is the one reporting this, and he is usually on top of things as far as the Phillies are concerned. Haven't heard back from anyone in the organization, but Ross would make some sense. They could keep him in the minors and then bring him up when the rosters expand in September. Despite Carlos Ruiz's struggles at the plate this season, I doubt they'd send him to Triple A this late in the season, particularly considering how well the Phillies starters have pitched lately. Then again, I could be completely wrong about that.
Rosenthal is saying that the Red Sox are also interested in Ross, so take all of that for what it's worth.

Meanwhile, the Dodgers get future HOF Greg Maddux. Says it all! JGhoo
Forget about that bum, Coste is the starter, Ruiz is backup problem solved. Phillies got a kid in minors who can be third catcher next year. How about an infielder to replace Bruntlett who can't hit or field. What are the Phillies paying the guy who makes these calls? reddevil
I don't like to think the Phillies are cheap, but I heard they are holding try outs for catchers at the un employment office today ! phineas- I love when this writers come to bat for management. Yeah, David, it makes sense to offer a contract to a career .200 hitter who just got released by a bad club so he can get a spot on the expanded roster and keep bluechippers Lou Marson and Jason Jaramillo in the minors. I hope they treat you well when you visit the stadium next time with hoagies, pizza and beer. EL Zorro

As a popular radio host says, "just going though the trash can to see if there are any leftovers!!" Until the phils get serious about the playoffs, and bring in the impact players, It's just a joke. Angel R.
I think David Cross would be a better choice than this stiff. At least the catching situation would be funny rather than tragically sad. ErikT

Coste's problem, and he admits it, is that the more he plays, the worst he plays. he's a great number 2 catcher and should stay that way. What the idiots should do is bring up the guy from the minors as he's going to be the starter next year in any case. jeff gross
This is ridiculous!! I may stop watching them for the rest of the season!! youknowit123
