Phils interested in Ross?

According to a report by FoxSports.com, the Phillies are one team interested in acquiring catcher David Ross, who was released by the Reds Monday. Ross, 31, has hit .223 with a .310 on base percentage in seven major league seasons. He was hitting .231 with a .381 on base percentage in 52 games for the Reds.

Ken Rosenthal is the one reporting this, and he is usually on top of things as far as the Phillies are concerned. Haven't heard back from anyone in the organization, but Ross would make some sense. They could keep him in the minors and then bring him up when the rosters expand in September. Despite Carlos Ruiz's struggles at the plate this season, I doubt they'd send him to Triple A this late in the season, particularly considering how well the Phillies starters have pitched lately. Then again, I could be completely wrong about that.

Rosenthal is saying that the Red Sox are also interested in Ross, so take all of that for what it's worth.

This makes perfect sense. Ross you see owns a lucky rabbits foot that makes former MVP's perform to their capablities.

Ruiz is great with the pitchers and they are the only ones holding this team together. .02 points in average increase? I don't think so. If he was hitting .260 or better then OK, but no way!

The Rangers have 3 serviceable catchers, each of whom would be an upgrade for the Phillies. But of course, the Phils happen to know that the way to handle the waiver deadline is to go out there and grab a #4 starter that nobody else is interested in. Nice work. Now, PLEASE seal the deal by snaring a minor league middle reliever off the waiver wire.

Are you kidding me? A catcher? It's the other end of the pitch that requires an upgrade. Gillick - get us a pitcher!!!!!!!!!!

Replacing Ruiz with Ross is the kind of thing I do with my fantasy baseball team, a team which will never compete for a real world series.
