Phillies win 12-5; post-game quick-hitters
David Murphy, Daily News Staff Writer
A few quick notes before I skedaddle to the airport for a flight home. . .
1) Charlie Manuel said the Phillies would not make a roster move before tomorrow night's game, but could make one before Saturday's game. Facing righthander A.J. Burnett tomorrow, either Matt Stairs or Greg Dobbs will DH. But because of games against lefties Andy Pettitte and C.C. Sabathia Saturday and Sunday, the team could call up a right-handed bat from the minor leagues and send down one of the extra relievers they are currently carrying on the roster.
2) Raul Ibanez hit his 15th home run of the season, Chase Utley hit his 11th, and Jimmy Rollins went 4-for-6 to improve his batting average to .234.
3) Rollins has hit safely and scored a run in nine of his last 10 games, during which time the Phillies are 7-3.
4) Sergio Escalona continues to impress: he tossed a scoreless ninth inning today.
5) Chan Ho Park made his first relief appearance, pitching a scoreless eighth inning.
6) Manuel was complimentary of Joe Blanton's pitching performance, despite the five-spot he allowed in the fifth. Three of those runs came courtesy of one bad pitch, a hanging slider with two-out in the fifth inning that Brandon Phillips crushed for a three-run home run.
7) Blanton said the one area of his game he is dissatisfied with is his performance with runners on base. Heading into today, the opposing hitters were batting under .200 against him with the bases empty, and .338 against him with runners on.

Comment removed.- I think we have more slugging power than the Yankees, and in that park long balls will dominate the day.

Dr Vinnie Goomatz, with the same amont of at bats Coste has a higher average, more extra base hits, more home runs and more RBIs than Ruiz. If he belongs on the bench then where does Chooch belong? He is our backup cather brain surgeon find another area to fixate on. mikeyboy- Pizzed, you'll be very happy if the take 2 out of 3 from the Yankees? They have only lost 1 game in 7 road games. I'll be very happy with one win. We'll be facing three very good starters and a potent lineup at their park. EL Zorro
DR: Donald is lost at the plate with Pigs. Mayberry is probably the better alternative at this time. mick314

Doc and EZ..play nice. We have a difficult weekend coming up. Best to enjoy the precious present. Remember the days of Steve Jeltz and Jeff Stone and be happy. mick314
I think the move will come down to John Mayberry, Jr. or Pablo Ozuna. Murph: on first reference Sabathia's first name is sans the periods. CC, not C.C. He declared this during the offseason and I am pretty sure it was front page news of the NY Times and the subject of a Sportscenter special. mjriley26
mj, even more reason to use C.C.! Looking forward to our boys bombing the bronx this weekend! On a side note, why is the bronx cheer glorified but the philly boo ridiculed? Timmy
Adam Eaton... took a beatin. From the Yanks in Brooklyn. Asked if he was at all concerned with all the pitches that were burned... amidst a blank and stupid stare "I can't pitch and I don't care.. the Phils made me a millionaire." BudSelig_isthenext_MrBurns- Yes DR, the Yanks played Baltimore (the schedule said they have too) the last three games but beat them pretty bad. They have won 9 in a row (10 out of 12 since A-Rod camb back from the DL), starting with 3 straight wins against 1st place Toronto at Toronto, then swept the Twins at home - not an easy task - the same team that put a 20 spot on Chicago yesterday. And get over what? I'm being realistic here. The Phillies are underdogs in two out of the three games and in the other (Sabathia vs. Hamels) is a toss up. You also have to take into consideration that the Phillies are not a good interleague team. And I know, the Phillies won the WS obviously against an AL team, but that was then, this is now. We should not be resting on our laurels. EL Zorro
