The question will be: Who will come up for Ibañez, when he's struggling? I think the 2nd half of last year was foreshadowing for this whole year. skipper22
Poor Richard - we must have been thinking the same thing at the same time. skipper22
Although raul is getting up there in age i think u would be crazy to write him off. 2nd half was rough last year but dont forget about how incredible his first half was. Do u think he could "lose it" that quick? No way, the man was playing with a serious injury. Lets hope that his recovery is complete and he will be caught up soon. But for so many to already write him off is a joke. philsfan in the atx
sorry, did i miss something? does mayberry staying up this long spell doom for ibanez? bigsteve
I think a lot of people are forgetting that 2 things were in favor of Ibanez in the beginning of last season. 1# Moving from a pitchers park to a hitters park, 2# Going to a whole new league after spending your whole career in another. Very few of these pitchers were familiar with Ibanez, once they caught up with his offense they ended his number. Philadelphiafreedom81
I had warned several times even before spring training to trade ibanez and platoon left field with francisco, and taylor(who is gone)or either brown or mayberry. ibanez may start to hit but he is 37ys. this could be the start of his decline, manuel needs to send him down if he struggles alot the first 2 months and bring up one of the above young players phillies need more youth and speed on this team. only 9
The Phils could sure save a lot of money in salary if they just canned Charlie and Ruben and let Philly.com posters make all the personnel decisions. veritas
Ibanez hit in the postseason. That was later in the year than the last couple months, and he still had an injury. Give the man a chance. B in DC- I don't see Ibanez as being finished. I don't understand how anybody can draw that conclusion so quickly. I could see using him less -- maybe in 130-140 games -- and now that Francisco has emerged as a realistic option, maybe Charlie will have the good sense to rest Ibanez more often.
- It seems the Phillies like to send the kids down on a high note. They sent Domonick Brown after his monster game about a week ago and Mayberry yesterday after getting 2 hits. Sardhina also had a pretty good game a few days ago in his only start, I believe. I like that. That will give them extra confidence to start their seasons. It’s nice to know we are going to have pretty good replacements if needed in AA and AAA, where a good mix of young and veteran players will be playing. What a difference a year makes. Anybody missing Bruntlett? As for Raul, I’m a little worry that age has caught up to him. I have seen players get old in a hurry too many times (remember Geoff Jenkins, who went from AS to being released in a few years at age 33?), but, like someone said, is early. In the other hand, the way Dobbs is hitting and with Francisco, Gloud and the kids down in the farm, I’m not too worry. EL Zorro
- Nice to see ya John Jr., hope to see ya again. That dinger Raul got on his elbow friday night is going to fix him--odd how something like that can help, but often it does. Come on Charlie, bat Victorino and Rollins BOTH at the top of the lineup.
Whaddaya say we let Charlie do things HIS way this year....It hasn't worked out TOO bad the last coupla' years has it?? TBear
Someone who hit the way he did the first half of last year, is NOT finished. He was playing through the injury and that messed him up for the 2nd half. He wasn't just good the first half...he was almost MVP of the NL good. He'll be back this year ericyshel
Ibanez will be fine. He needs more days off but we have to get fransisco and dobbs more at-bats anyway.. By the time his contract is up we will have, hopefully, Tyson Gillies will be ready to take his place and then take Vic's place in 12' Expect to see Brown in Right next year because, unfortunately, Werth will be gone.
