The Phillies are still waiting to make a decision on whether leftfielder Pat Burrell will play in today's Game 1.

Burrell strained his lower back on his last swing of batting practice yesterday. He was at the ballpark at 8 o'clock this morning for treatment and met with trainer Scott Sheridan and manager Charlie Manuel.

"It's up to me to determine exactly what he's telling me and what he can do," Manuel said. "We’ll know more after batting practice."

Manuel said he has two lineups for today's game, one with Burrell and one with Matt Stairs in rightfield and Jayson Werth in leftfield.

Sheridan said Burrell did some running and exercises this morning, and came through the session fine, and has shown progress since last night.

"The only thing he is concerned with is making sure he is 100 percent for swinging," Sheridan said. "Pat’s been through this before. He’s familiar with the routine. It's not hard to get him educated about this stuff."

Sheridan said Burrell has no history of back problems since turning pro and said he was not sure if Burrell would wear any sort of brace should he play. Of course, should be play, making the injury worse is a concern.

Manuel indicated that Burrell might not be able to serve as a pinch-hitter if he did not start after spending most of the game on the bench.

Just got a text message from Phillies P.R. man Greg Casterioto.

There will be a press conference with head athletic trainer Scott Sheridan at 11:45 a.m.

I have no idea what it is about, but it probably isn't to answer questions about ankle-taping.

Pat Burrell left yesterday's work out with back discomfort, but he is listed on the 25-man playoff roster that the Phillies just announced. So we'll see.

Here's the roster. No real surprises. Rudy Seanez isn't on it, but he will travel with the team.

Infielders (6): 1B  Ryan Howard, 2B Chase Utley, 3B Pedro Feliz, SS Jimmy Rollins, 3B Greg Dobbs, IF Eric Bruntlett.

Outfielders (6): RF Jayson Werth, CF Shane Victorino, LF Pat Burrell, RF Matt Stairs, RF Geoff Jenkins, OF So Taguchi.

Burrell stinks anyway. He cannot catch a cold and runs like my gramdma (no offense Gramdma). I say keep him out game 1 and only play him against CC in game 2 where need his righthanded bat.

Why Stairs and not Jenkins? Is Jenkins still hurting too?

Clueless!!!! Pat was our best player a lot of this year and had more clutch hits than anyone. And why Stairs over Jenkins? Jenkins hasn't had a meaningful hit since Clearwater.

All of your posts are mostly negative. Why not try being positive? All of your comments seem like it's still the regular season. Try supporting all the players and the team!!! GO PHILS!!!
