Phillies to activate Lidge from DL

POSTED: Thursday, April 29, 2010, 12:22 PM

Reliever Brad Lidge will be activated from the disabled list in time for tomorrow night’s game against the New York Mets, the Phillies announced.

Lidge, 33, was placed on the disabled list on March 26, while recovering from right elbow surgery. He combined to go 0-1 with a 5.19 ERA with four walks and eight strikeouts in eight rehab appearances between Triple A Lehigh Valley, Double A Reading and Single A Clearwater. After allowing five runs over his first two rehab appearances in 1.2 innings, Lidge pitched 7.0 scoreless innings over his final six appearances.

To make room for Lidge on the 25-man roster, lefthanded pitcher Antonio Bastardo was optioned to Lehigh Valley after yesterday’s game.

I am not worried about Lidge but did you see that slow slop and 87 mph fastball that Romero was throwing in his inning in San Francisco. The night before Bastardo was getting swinging strikes on 93 mph fastball with late movement. Go figure?

I want Lidge back, but not at the expense of Bastardo. One of the few guys who has pitched well down there.

It's hard to believe that Madson has stunk so bad that I'm actually happy to hear this. I think I would take Jose Mesa closing games over Madson at this point.

@ eaglebeef That's AWESOME!.......bring that trash back from the dump. Man some people in this town have short memories. How can anything Lidge does in the future erase the perfect season and images of him on the mound for strike 3 in the World Series?? Same thing with Hamels. People need to grow up.

@bobbyd24 - I agree. Problem is, in sports it's, what have you done for me lately?

I was hoping they would axe Herndon instead of Bastardo. Herndon stinks, can't pitch in the majors, don't care about rule 5. If the Angels wanted him, good riddance
