Phillies and Nomar, again?

POSTED: Monday, August 31, 2009, 3:27 PM

Should the Phils add Nomar Garciappara?
Yes
No

The Phillies had a scout in Anaheim this weekend to take a look at Oakland's Nomar Garciappara, according to report in the San Francisco Chronicle.

The team had discussions with Garciaparra in the offseason. Garciappara, who did not play in the weekend series against the Angels, has cleared waivers, according to the report.

A team source told the Daily News today that the Phillies considered pusuing Garciappara but it is not likely to happen. Today is the last day that players can be added to rosters and still be eligible for the postseason.

Garciaparra has started once in the past 12 games. He is 0 for his past 14 pinch-hit at-bats. He has appeared in 55 games with 129 at-bats, and is hitting .264 with two home runs and 13 RBI.

Also, the Phillies announced that they have selected the contract of righthander John Ennis from Triple A Lehigh Valley. Ennis, who had Tommy John surgery in April, will immediately be placed on the 15-day disabled list.

To make room for Ennis on the 40-man roster, infielder Brad Harman was designated for assignment.

After Dobbs and Francisco, their is a huge drop off concerning the bench. Stairs came up huge last year but that was last year. His bat is way too slow as he's not catching up with good fastballs, rarely goes with the pitch to the opposite field, and can't field a lick. There has to be a better option?

Interesting about Harman. He accepted an award Monday night as Reading's top defensive player. He's hurt right now.

Well it is 0110 am 9/1. With Dobbs on the DL and Stairs showing his age what the Phillies need is another left hand bat. They missed their opportunity to get Thome who went to the Dodgers. And the Phillies are still paying him.

The Giants, Cardinals and Red Sox have substantially improved their rosters in recent weeks. The Phillies need to make a move.

How did Jim Thome and Jon Garland get through waivers? How did the Rockies manage to get Jose Contreras? The Phillies may be able to beat the Braves and the Marlins but they do not match up well against the Giants, Rockies, Dodgers, Cardinals, Red Sox, Yankees or Angels.

You are correct, Eric Bruntlett is now in the Hall of Fame.

Just for the record... Eric Bruntlett is getting a raw deal... No one can hit playing as rarely as he does - well, almost no one - for references you can always ask Matt Stairs, if I'm right... (HTML deleted)

Why are we being asked to vote on a situation that will never happen? This is a worthless, slow-Phillies-day post.
