Phillies sign Podsednik to minor league deal

The Phillies have signed former stolen base champ Scott Podsednik to a minor league deal, according to Fox Sport's Ken Rosenthal.
Podsednik had a solid season last year for the Royals and Dodgers, hitting .297/.342/.382 with 35 steals in 595 plate appearances. He was much better in Kansas City than he was in Los Angeles. Podsednik has played all three outfield positions, although the majority of his playing time has come in left field and center field.
Podsednik was hitting .254/.365/.352 with three steals in 85 plate appearances in the Blue Jays' minor league system. Toronto released Podsednik, who battled planta fasciitis in spring training.
Podsednik gives the Phillies depth, particularly at center field, where Shane Victorino is currently on the disabled list.

Scott Posednik is a gamer. I'd rather have him come off the bench to pinch hit than today's attempt with Chooch (for Mayberry, no less!) Comment removed.- Significant. Signing Podsednik means Phils either : 1) Are more concerned re Shane's health than they're admitting, and/or 2) Have doubts with one or more OFers on the club, take your pick : Mayberry, BenFran, Ibanez, Brown. One of those may be on the move.
