Phillies reportedly trying to reacquire d'Arnaud

The Phillies sent catching prospect Travis d'Arnaud to the Toronto Blue Jays as part of the package that netted Roy Halladay. Now, the Phillies reportedly have interest in getting him back.
The Phillies have discussed "possible ways on how to re-acquire catcher Travis D’Araund from the Jays," according to a report in the Toronto Sun.
The odds on that happening are not very likely. Wrote Bob Elliott, "Good luck."
d'Arnaud had a tremendous season at Double A New Hampshire, hitting .311 with 21 home runs and 78 RBI in 114 games. He was ranked as the fourth-best prospect in the Blue Jays organization by Baseball America before the 2011 season.
The Blue Jays acquired d'Arnaud, former first-round pick Kyle Drabek and Michael Taylor, whom they sent to Oakland, for Halladay before the 2009 season.
Carlos Ruiz can be a free agent after the 2012 season (the Phillies hold a club option for 2013) and the Phillies' catcher of the future is Sebastian Valle, who likely will play at Double A Reading this season.
Valle had .284 with five homers and 40 RBI in 91 games for Clearwater last season.
What did Ed Wade really give us? Both of the key players everyone thinks we stole from the Astro's (Oswalt and Lidge) had some spurts of greatness, but both are basically washed up. bobcitydoc
For all of the idiots who think the Phillies ripped off Ed Wade: http://www.thegoodphight.com/2011/11/28/2594296/from-the-tgp-archives-the-phillies-have-never-ripped-off-ed-wade freethinker88- Thanks for the link, strange that I missed that story at the time. As a fan like you, there's not much info new to me from that article, a little reading and research before these people post stupid inane comments would be impossible to fathom. But I do disagree about his Pence observations, HP brings the intangibles not sewn up in stats and we all saw those intangibles this year; Energy, love of the game, commitment to the sport and fans, unbridled enthusiasm..I saw Pence play many times in Houston, I grew up in Philly but now live in Texas, I try to catch the Philiies whenever I can. Nice post and link, good to see a real fan post here...

this guy is hardly the next Johnny Bench. A good prospect for him ought to work straight up. Paul SoTX
"Do the Phils have anything else left to offer?"
Ryan Howard. It solves two problems at the same time. fmMD
Can he play first base? Will Toronto take Howard's salary. If so...so long choker! jakeAZ
Ruiz does a great job with handling the pitching staff, but fell off some offensively last season. With Chooch being in a walk year contract wise, Phils are probably looking for someone in a trade that they feel can start in the future. It's a bummer with Schneidner resigned, I would have liked to see Erik Kratz get a shot to back up Ruiz in 2012. Seeing Red- Damn straight!
bearsfriend - Damn straight!
bearsfriend - Ditto on Kratz. I thought he deserved a shot at the backup job in 2012 based on his play this year. Could he really be worse than Schneider? s
trade them ruiz for d'arn, he's toast! larryv- Ruiz is toast? lol! The last 2 years he has averaged 290 and an ops of 800. Not bad for a catcher. I guess if you asked our pitchers what they thought of him they would say something as foolish as you just did right?

Another consideration is to look toward the draft -- either the June draft or rule 5 draft or both -- for a catcher prospect. spreadeagle
Disagree with 99% of these idiotic posts. We got Roy FRIGGIN Halladay for this guy. Know him? Think we would have made the playoffs the last two years without him? WTF? You get a chance to land the best starting pitcher in the game, a sure-fire Hall of Famer still in the prime of his career, you trade the kitchen sink to nail a guy like that. Sheesh. It's nice that D'Arnaud had an excellent AA season last year. Bravo. Keep it up and have your agent call us when you're a free agent in 10 years. But Halladay has a great MLB season, year in and year out. Perspective people, please. eman- Don't exactly know what you're debating..I don't believe anybody who posted complained about this guy getting sent away to acquire Roy....This is just about reacquiring a guy who plays a position of need..who is very talented and from a great baseball family...who happens to be in an organization that is quite healthy at that position...Did you even read all of the posts?
