The Phillies sent catching prospect Travis d'Arnaud to the Toronto Blue Jays as part of the package that netted Roy Halladay. Now, the Phillies reportedly have interest in getting him back.
The Phillies have discussed "possible ways on how to re-acquire catcher Travis D’Araund from the Jays," according to a report in the Toronto Sun.
The odds on that happening are not very likely. Wrote Bob Elliott, "Good luck."
d'Arnaud had a tremendous season at Double A New Hampshire, hitting .311 with 21 home runs and 78 RBI in 114 games. He was ranked as the fourth-best prospect in the Blue Jays organization by Baseball America before the 2011 season.
The Blue Jays acquired d'Arnaud, former first-round pick Kyle Drabek and Michael Taylor, whom they sent to Oakland, for Halladay before the 2009 season.
Carlos Ruiz can be a free agent after the 2012 season (the Phillies hold a club option for 2013) and the Phillies' catcher of the future is Sebastian Valle, who likely will play at Double A Reading this season.
Valle had .284 with five homers and 40 RBI in 91 games for Clearwater last season.
Yeah Ruiz topped out with the bat in 2010 so its worth a shot.. FightinPhil
I'd say that reporter's "good luck" wishes were right on...who would the BJays take? DBrown? Do the Phils have anything else left to offer? Mark1npt
What could they possible offer Toronto to get a probable top five prospect in baseball, who plays a premium position back. They don't have anything close to his value in their system. I'd love to have him back, but it isnt happening, even if they offered Brown, Valle, May, and Pettibone it probably wouldn't be enough. Ed Gein- Sure, that would be more than enough...The Blue Jays love their young masher, JP Arencibia, and they're dealing from power as d'Arnaud is a luxury to them and he just put up huge numbers in a bandbox in Manchester...They'd seek pitching, and top liners May or Biddle would be the asking price, along with the trimmings.
bearsfriend - You would trade all those players for Travis, someone who has never played in the. majors? Valle has better #'s at 21 then Travis did at the same age. Travis didn't show a lot until this year. I think Valle fits in better with Ruiz and when he will be ready. Scouts seem to think he will have a lot of power also and his defensive skills have improved a lot according to the scouts, No need to give away all those prospects for him.

This would be a GREAT move if the Phillies get him back!!!! Short of trading 1 of our aces they need to do whatever it takes to make this happen. Bishop-X- There is really nothing they can do to make this happen unless they were willing to trade Hamels, which they won't and shouldn't do. Although I'd be intrigued if the Blue jays offered Romero, D'arnaud, adn Frazier for hamels. Id probably think long and hard about that one.

Ed Wade is the only man in baseball who would give us d'Arnaud back. Echo
well said, Echo, well said. we'd have a better chance of getting Drabek back. jim715

The Phillies only hope is if Ed Wade is named General Manager of Toronto. SteveS11
The Phillies have one person that the Blue Jays want---Halladay! Good luck. Penfold18
ruiz hit pretty well this year except for the nlds. I doubt they'll get much bang for the trade buck at the catcher position if they really have a "guy for the future." that said, ruiz's lack of speed definitely costs him hits. still, you never know, molina had a career year this year rather unexpectedly dreinterests- Resign Oswalt, then trade Worley and Valle for d'Arnaud.
The Jays have Arencibia (sp?), so it doesn't make too much sense for them to hold on to d'Arnaud. Trading him for Valle straight up could suit both teams needs (with respect to timing). tgray83
