Phillies reportedly trying to reacquire d'Arnaud

The Phillies sent catching prospect Travis d'Arnaud to the Toronto Blue Jays as part of the package that netted Roy Halladay. Now, the Phillies reportedly have interest in getting him back.

The Phillies have discussed "possible ways on how to re-acquire catcher Travis D’Araund from the Jays," according to a report in the Toronto Sun.

The odds on that happening are not very likely. Wrote Bob Elliott, "Good luck."

d'Arnaud had a tremendous season at Double A New Hampshire, hitting .311 with 21 home runs and 78 RBI in 114 games. He was ranked as the fourth-best prospect in the Blue Jays organization by Baseball America before the 2011 season.

The Blue Jays acquired d'Arnaud, former first-round pick Kyle Drabek and Michael Taylor, whom they sent to Oakland, for Halladay before the 2009 season.

Carlos Ruiz can be a free agent after the 2012 season (the Phillies hold a club option for 2013) and the Phillies' catcher of the future is Sebastian Valle, who likely will play at Double A Reading this season.

Valle had .284 with five homers and 40 RBI in 91 games for Clearwater last season.

Ed Gein, how is he top 5 in baseball if he is #4 for Toronto?

I'm a huge fan of Hamels, but why in the world would the Jays offer Romero, D'Arnaud and Frazier for him? Not realistic at all.

Mike Maddog--he was the Jays' #4 BEFORE 2011 started. His MVP season in 2011 puts him in the top five for all of baseball. This is the beginning of what we will see over the next few years as the "prospects" we traded away become major leaguers.

Not really seeing the point in reacquiring this guy. yes hes a good player and all but we have out catcher for the future in Valle and we still have Ruiz who is a hometown favorite. Ruiz's defense and knowledge of the pitching staff is crucial part of our team. do not deplete the farm system even more for a catcher we are not in dire need of

Sebastian Valle is infantile in his development in comparison to Travis d'Arnaud...Ruben probably is having similar nightmares to the one's he had involving Cliff Lee..

Valle will be in AA this season. He has improved big time in his defensive skills according to scouts and also with the bat. His timing is perfect with Ruiz being the back up by 2013. I find it hard to believe Travis would be taking over Ruiz's spot after this season but who knows. I have heard some great stuff about Valle. He is a year and a half younger then Travis so he is supposed to be a bit behind in skills. Valle's hitting is better then Travis's was at the same age, Travis improved a lot in one year. Hopefully Valle does also

I'll stand by my assessment...both guys hav ethe same amount of service time..Travis d'Arnaud has waaay more polish to his game. Valle swings at literally every pitch, and as he moves up the ladder has to be more selective to be a real good prospect...Just because he's OUR best prospect at catcher does not mean he's a plus prospect at the catcher position...Interested to see if his power numbers improve at Reading..He wilted in the heat from late July on in Clearwater last year.

Just don't see how Travis fits in with the team unless they are going to trade Ruiz after this season which I doubt, I certainly would not give give up a few good pitching prospects for one prospect when he has no place to play. Ruiz already does more then I ever expected him to do with his bat but his catching skills surpassed whatever I thought he would do. In the last 2 years Ruiz has averaged 290 and an ops of 800.. He is 32. He has 2 good years left in him. I can't see him being replaced in 2013 but I could in 2014 by Valle or someone else

Has number 4 last season before he had a monster year at AA, your reading comprehension skills are strong guy haha. And to that guy that suggested Valle for D'arnaud straight up, I am assuming that was an attemot at humor.

can we also get back Happ and the rest for Oswalt? how about voiding the Howard contract? how about voiding the promotion of Amaro to g.m.?

Though D'Arnaud is listed at 6'2" he looked smallish to me when I saw him in the AA playoffs against Reading. Guess his uni was a little baggy. He hit only .241 in the EL playoffs for the EL winners but did put up great numbers during the regular season. Interesting to see how he rebounds from his ligament damage. Gosewisch took over for him after the injury during the World Cup games in Panama and then in the Pan Am games in Mexico this Fall.
