Phillies pitching depth takes hit with release of Gaudin

The Phillies' pitching depth took a hit today with the release of righthander Chad Gaudin, who was a strong contender to make the Opening Day roster as a long reliever and spot starter. According to general manager Ruben Amaro Jr., Gaudin failed his physical. Gaudin had a strong year last year for the Giants, logging 97 innings in 12 starts and 18 relief appearances while posting a 3.06 ERA, 8.2 K/9, 3.7 BB/9 and 0.6 HR/9.
