Phillies agree to minor league deal with Dave Bush
Paul Hagen
The Phillies have added a local product to the organization, sources have confirmed.
Righthander Dave Bush, a graduate of Conestoga High School and a native of Berwyn, Pa., has agreed to terms on a minor league contract. If he passes the physical that was scheduled for Sunday afternoon, he’ll join Triple A Lehigh Valley.
Bush, 31, opened the season with the Texas Rangers and was 0-1, 5.79 when he was designated for assignment after 17 games, three of them starts.
He then signed a minor league contract with the Triple A Iowa Cubs, where he was 1-2, 6.14 in five starts before opting out of his contract last week.
Since the results of the physical weren’t in, general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. was unable to comment on Bush, so it was immediately unclear whether this was a move made to add depth to the organization or whether it signals that the Phillies could be close to promoting a pitcher from the IronPigs.
The big-league team is presently carrying just 11 pitchers, one less than the standard allotment.

Take a look at MLB Channel's tickertape....you will see all the also-rans and has-beens signed by other teams, too. road515
JohnnyDomino - AWESOME! SBHAMILTON
Comment removed.- What are some of you people, 8 years old, lacking in short-term memory, or bandwagon Phillies fans? Dave Bush was a respectable, back-end-of-the-rotation starter for the Brewers for a few years, not too long ago. This is a fine guy to have in AAA, trying to see if he can get his stuff back in case of emergency.

Why...because he's a local kid? To sign a pitcher who is NOT capable of an ERA under 5.00 doesn't make any sense? Robi_LA
I don;t know, are you related to Rick James? superfreak? bearsfriend
Dave Bush, former catcher at Connestoga, has a good arm and really is a starter..He is purely an insurance arm as a starter in case arms tire or they want to rest guys down the stretch..And yes, Rod Nichols has cured alot of other guys...Scott Mathieson is turning it around,Joe Savery is starting to excell in AAA, and Michael Schwimmer is ready to come up....Just need a thirdbaseman! bearsfriend
I have liked bush for decades. NewMick314
A 6.14 ERA in AAA in the Pacific League with Iowa, come on now. If he was any good at all, the stinking Chi Cubs would have called him up from Iowa since they usually gut the Iowa Cubs roster at the end of the season looking for players. atp2007- I'm not going to be able to sleep tonight wondering why the Phils signed this guy. This is a major concern to all of us. COskier
NewMick314, I prefer shaved. fafafooey
Anyone else find it odd the article is about Dave Bush and the picture is of Colby Lewis? marauder2400
Unless this move was simply to fill out the Iron Pigs pitching staff, it makes no sense. Bush is even worse than Kyle Kendrick, so why would they want a washed up has been (or never was) like him? SteveS11
Arthur Rhodes sucked the last time he pitched in Philly and they don't want to get burned twice by the same guy. SteveS11
Remember when the Phils signed Heilman not too long ago and people were spelling doom and gloom? Yeah, he really affected the Phils so far trudging down in LV. Bush will probably be bought up in Sept. as some extra pitching depth to help the Phils out. ESFjellin
