Phillies activate Blanton; Kendrick returns
Daily News staff
The Phillies activated righthander Joe Blanton from the 60-day disabled list.
Blanton had been on the DL since May 23 (retroactive to May 16) with right elbow inflammation.
Blanton, 30, made one rehab appearance with Single A Lakewood on Sept. 2, pitching one scoreless inning without allowing a baserunner. He initally was scheduled to pitch in another rehab appearance today at Hagerstown, but the Phillies decided he was ready to return.
He had previously been on the DL from April 29 to May 9 (retroactive to April 24) with a medial impingement in his right elbow. Blanton is 1-2 with a 5.50 ERA in six starts for the Phillies this season.
* Righthander Kyle Kendrick has been reinstated from the paternity leave list. Kendrick and his wife welcomed their first child, a daughter, over the weekend.
* Shortstop Jimmy Rollins (strained right groin) is eligible to come off the disabled list today, but probably won’t. General manager Ruben Amaro Jr. described him as day-to-day.

-WillieHorton, your mother's calling you for dinner. Go finish your homework and brush your teeth and leave the posting to the over 12 crowd. You're a disgrace! fly eagles fly
Fat Joe will not be able to pitch more than 1 inning. He hasn't built up any stamina and he isn't in shape to begin with. LastWord55- Welcome back, Heavy B. Best 6th starter in baseball.
- JoeB only good to use up an inning or two here and there. He is a slow starter as a starter, motor not at full roar usually for an inning or two. Not helpful in the bullpen except to keep KK out of those useless situations. It will be good off season conversation to wonder what Phils will do with JB, since Kendrick looks like he would be starter 5 if RoyO retires. But for now, we're in a baseball place we've not been in for a long, long time, maybe ever, since I don't remember 76 and 77, except in 76 it must have been awesome to finally beat the Bucco's. Thought Rollins was playing for a contract? Ssteve115
Blanton coming back can't hurt as long as he no longer injured. If he is completely healthy, he can only help the stretch of 29 games in 27 days. He may even get a spot start during a double header. He is also re-auditioning for the 2012 season. Oswalt probably will NOT be resigned at $16 million. Blanton, if healthy, will join Lee/Halladay/Hamels/Worely in the rotation. drhoffman
Some of you guys should let go of the "tough guy" act. Get rid of this guy, send that guy down, blah blah.. If it was up to some of you, this team would be worse than the Mets. road515
Rest Utley, Polanco and Conlin. NewMick314
The good news is that barring extra innings we're not likely to see much of the Phillies middle relief in the postseason. Will also probably add Worley and definitely add Kendrick to the bullpen, which should displace Herndon at least. Phils Phan 28
Bunch of dopes. I guess you all forgot the great job Herndon has done up to these last couple of games. Plus the last Florida game he was already tired from the night before. You can tell you've never played the game at any higher level that little league. As far as Schwimer goes - are you morons kidding? He's straight from the minors!!! What a bunch of non-baseball players you are. Phillyexp
