Pence: 'Knee is feeling great'

POSTED: Wednesday, September 21, 2011, 12:51 PM

Hunter Pence, who was scheduled to have a precautionary MRI today, took to Twitter to assure the fans that he is OK

"Knee is feeling great everyone," he tweeted. "Thanks for your concern. Excited to get back at it today. No complacency."

Pence, who had two hits in Game 1 yesterday against Washington despite a noticeable hitch in his gait, wanted Charlie Manuel to keep him in the lineup for the nightcap. The training staff requested otherwise.

“Our doctors and our trainers checked him out and our trainer came back and said he’d prefer him not to play in the second game,” Manuel said. “Hunter was wanting to play.”

It should be noted that, heading into yesterday, Pence had played every inning of every game since joining the Phillies in late July. He said he has dealt with the tendinitis all season, but that yesterday was the first time it had flared up. He did not rule out playing tonight and his tweet indicated that could be the case.

Take a break man. We need you 100% in October. Beating scrub teams like the Nats is pointless right now.

Sweet Hunter. Agree with Jetta, we can get to 103 w/o you and your great energy in the lineup. Take a blow and get ready for 9/30.

The only concern for the team at this point is to be at full strength for the playoffs. Rest the regulars as planned this week and get the full lineup back for the last five games.

HP had a noticeable hitch in his gait? I just thought that was his normal run, Forrest, run gait....lol.....HP is a classic "all in" ADD headjob....but I'm glad he's our headjob. Get whatever rest you need HP...next week the meals get bigger!

Just put out a buffet and he will gladly miss the game. LOVE his enthusiasm and passion for the game as it will definitely spread during the playoffs to a team that seems to need some.

Phillies with lingering injuries should sit. Backups should play. Healthy regulars should only be in there to get a few ABs. This is spring training part II, fellas. And please limit the pitchers to 100 pitches. Bring in the AAA pitchers to finish games, who cares if we lose the game.

Yeah exrec4. This team was truly terrible before Pence got here. Just a bunch of slackers. Never won a thing. Ridiculous.

At this rate, the Phils will be stuck at 98 wins. In fact MLB could ask the Phillies to give back wins the way they've been playing this past 10 days.
