Park named 5th starter; Happ will compete for bullpen spot
David Murphy, Daily News Staff Writer
Sorry, but something got lost in translation between here and Clearwater. Chan Ho Park has been named the Phillies' fifth starter. But lefthander J.A. Happ's future is still up in the air. He will be one of four pitchers competing for two spots in the bullpen. The others are righthanders Gary Majewski and Robert Mosebach and lefthander Jack Taschner.
Park has a Grapefruit League ERA of 2.53. He’s struck out 25, while walking only two, in 21 1/3 innings.
Happ has as ERA of 3.15. He’s given up 18 hits in 20 innings, walking six and striking out 14.

Tthe good fact is that both Happ and Park pitched well enough to deserve the spot. I see nothing wrong with 3 lefties in the rotation, in factwith the Mets being heavy with lefthanded hitters DelGardo Church Schneider Murphy it makes a lot of sense. Park was impressive and may have a good year. Don w
JimEisenreich ... you just made a case against Happ when you say "One good month against minor leaguers shouldn't qualify someone for the job, it should be the body of work" Park 117-92 Happ 1-1 Park still throws a 96 MPH heater which tells me he is in good shape. Happ is a pitcher of the future and I have no doubt he will be a good one but for right now he is best off in the Pen and possibly AAA when Romero comes back. Wally 24
soon enuff, he will replace moyer bobcitydoc- Avoid Sheffield like the plauge! He'll be bawling and screwing up the clubhouse in a week. Happ v Ho...There is no doubt Ho pitched well this spring. Happ on the other hand is ready for the big show and his upside with regular starts in the rotation is considerable. In my opinion the Ho choice is short sighted...the staff gets older with Moyer and Ho. I like the concept of giving a young player the ball and seeing what he can do. Could be the next Maddux or Glavin. dlauver1
Happ heading to Lehigh Valley, and barring injury, a trade to a non-contender. (can't see the point of wasting him in the minors during his prime years while he's got market value.) rzzzzz
Remember the Moyer contract and the noise made about a second year. Tells you something when you think about it. Wally 24
